My 55 gallon reef project

Excellent. It is in great shape dude considering it is so new to this system. It is projecting out to get light and eating fine.

We can only hope right. I'm really hoping that I can get past this initial nervous stage with this thing. It's just that I've had bad luck with them in the past, so I'm a bit nervous until I know this one likes where it's at!

If it decides to stay deflated, I will probably make a small water change tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

It's very possible it does this when i'm not here, and I'm not here to see it. I just happened to be home all day today.
 
They deflate when they get ready to expel waste. Since you fed it recently, I would suspect that's all what is happening.
 
Melev, how can I tell if my phyto culture crashed. From my understanding, the bottle will look yellow. Mine doesn't, but the stuff that settles in the bottle is yellowish rather than dark green.

Does that mean I need to start over, or am I oK?

It will either be yellow or clear, and the sediment will be flaky so that it refuses to mix back into solution. If it just settles out within a minute or so, it's crashed.
 
I think I'm ok. The sediment is a bit yellowish, but it stays suspended when shaken, and the liquid looks much greener than the crashed sample above.

It looks good, but it isn't dark enough. However, if this is your first batch, that is to be expected. The next batch will be darker.

Did you order the Density stick to measure the cell count?
 
I did not order a density stick. I guess I'll have to do that. You may need to explain how that exactly works and where it needs to be though.


jnarrowe: If I ever get a real hankerin for some extra greens in my diet, I'll be sure to video tape the incident.
 
Have you had an issue with the drain line making a sound like the ocean when it drains into the sump?

I have a 65gallon and I'm having this problem!

If you've had this problem, how did you correct it?
 
Are you having this issue with a freshwater test, or is it running with saltwater already?

Water pours into the PVC from the tank, and weeps out of the slits. Because the PVC is at the water's surface, air breathes out quietly and water pours out gently onto the water, without splashing.
