If running the closed loop externally - I'd go for a dedicated external pump vs. a Mag. IMO, electricity + flow-wise, there's better choices than Mag pumps [which don't do good against pressure, need 1.5" to get spec flow].
ok i finally got everything plumbed and set up. i have had water and dried up rock in it for about a week now. i also put in a few pieces of live rock to seed the rest. parameters are all stable. (for once) how long before i can start adding frags?
Originally posted by brandon0350 well as you can see i have alot of equipment to fit inside my 24x24 stand. what pump would you recomend that isnt huge?
Smaller iwakis aren't huge. Myself, I've switched over to Pan World pumps. Nice and compact. I use a 40PX for my return (low flow) I use a 50PX for my closed loop.
I've had so many problems with submersible pumps over the years. Some folks make out just fine, but they've been nothing but trouble for me. I initially switched to externals to lower the heat transfer to the water. They seem very dependable. (knock on wood)

Hope I didn't step on your toes, Mark. I realize the question was directed to your response.
