This thread is long Over due, as the tank has been up and running for some time now.
I had a 60 gallon long, 48",15",16".
I wanted to upgrade to an acrylic, and came to realization that my stand was to short to have a sump, and be able to work around things. I found a 60 gallon Cube with a very nice tall stand.
It is not acrylic, But in a few years when i have the money, i will go with an acrylic.
My old tank was not doing to well, as the DSB was full of nitrous.
The corals and clams were doing great but i was not sure for how much longer. This tank was also taking up a lot of space.
(when the 60long was first set up)
(as it was being taken down)
I thought this would be a good time to paint my room.
I don't even want to say how old the paint was, but needless to say it needed to be done. I also ordered a new Rug, and tore up the old wall to wall carpet, that was terribly stained.
It was hard for me to figure a way to do all this and not Kill any of the corals and clams that i already had.
I went with just putting everything in buckets with the plan to do all of this in one day. I had painted 3 1/4ths of the room before i got to the corner with the tank, so i only needed to take the tank down, paint the corner, Get the new tank setup, and get everything back in. Sounds simply right ?
Didn't turn out so.
I seem to have lost the image of the bucket with all the soft corals, and Fish. Any how, there were about two more buckets filled with things. I had to put all live rock into a Cardboard box. I also picked up 11 pounds of fresh live rock for the new tank, and Had 30 pounds of Base rock (old live rock) that i had to choose from.
So i Got the room painted quickly and layed down the new Rug, Things were starting to come into view, When i started to realize that this tank was not ready for all my precious corals and fish.
I put in one of my chromis to see how he would do. The tank was still way to cold and the tank was going through a minor ammonia spike.
Here is the tank the next mourning.
I came to the conclusion that i must leave everything in the buckets over night.. and hope for the best.
Always have a Holding tank, with heaters and pumps ready !
