My 600 Gallon SPS tank is back! Check it out..

Very nice... I'm glad I was able to see the early stages of this taking off again. I can't wait to see the difference 6 months from now!

I pulled up the old thread with the pictures of us moving that beast into place, but it looks like the link to the pictures isn't live anymore...

I still own that domain I need to check and see where they went. I doubt I deleted them... Nice find I was looking for that everywhere lol

Good to see you back. I saw the tank in person years ago when you first set it up (you were giving away frags). Again, good to have you back in the hobby.

With the way the led's are growing the coral I will be giving away frags again soon! Feels good to be back thanks!

Looks like it is doing really well and want to see it in 6 months. Can you post some info on what you are using for water flow since you have it setup as a peninsula?

I have a crazy huge return pump for starters.

I have 4 Tunze rocks all pointing out from the center with the largest tunzes that will fit in their rocks. Then I have a few misc wide flow pumps on the back wall. I have a lot of bare areas where the sand will not stay because I have so much flow.

If I could do it over again I would put the overflow in the back wall. I had it built in the middle because I was running wave boxes. I have since removed the wave boxes because I really do not believe they are worth the hassle.

Canar...so glad to see you back...that tank is great. I LOVE Freckles...those Vlamingi tangs are my favorites. I moved to Arkansas and have a 22 acre farm...just getting ready to get back into SW. Only problem I will have is the difficulty in getting, I am reduced to either via mail or traveling long distances. I am currently working on going with solar tubes for over the tank. Since I have a one story ranch it would be quite easy. Again, welcome back. I am sure the tank will be better than ever.

Nice... glad I could help! It looks like the domain homepage requires username/password... maybe the pictures are still there and just locked from public view? Anyway, let us know if you figure it out. I would love to take a look at those again... and they give some good perspective on just how ginormous that tank really is! Plus, those Beefy action shots were priceless!

WUWU I found the tankmove pictures!

Here is a teaser with the link below to all of them..

Awesome... man, seeing 2007 printed on the last photos... doesn't seem like that long ago! Photos 11-13 are the best!

Remember I had ten 80 dollar bulbs that needed to be replaced every 6 months.
Since I'm the proud new owner of a pair of your 400w E-Ballasts, I'm curious what your favorite bulbs were on these. I've been running ReefLux 12K for the last few years on my 400w Dimmables, and have been happy. I also experimented with the ReefLux 20K, which weren't bad. My last purchase was Radium 20K, but they're still in the box... hoping to install those once I get some corals going. I was just curious since you have experience with these ballasts.

I used the reeflux once I had my growth where I was happy. If I was trying to grow out the frags I used xm 10ks

Thanks... I think I'll order a pair of XM 10Ks for the starter frags. I've heard the PAR on those can be pretty high... hope it doesn't overdue it with the LumenBright Minis!

No I interacted with Bill a lot. He was very helpful.

Remember I had ten 80 dollar bulbs that needed to be replaced every 6 months. I could buy one and a half fixtures for that. I think the biggest thing is the ability to tweak the lights to fit the area. You can build long narrow strips and you only need to follow the rocks. The light will spill over to the sand no problem. This allows me to be much more precise where I direct the light.

There are power savings as well. My 1HP chiller is off now. If I get through next summer it will probably be up for sale.

If it wasnt for the LED's and Biopellets I doubt I would be doing this again.

Your more than welcome to stop by and see how I did this.

let me know

Ted

I may be moving here in the near future and with that comes new tank ideas/reconstruction. Who is Bill and can he be contacted for LED lighting? If I have the option to set up my lighting differently I will. BTW, your tank looks even better these days. I think you mentioned that you had a major flatworm outbreak. I am currently going through this and may wait for the move to dip everything in fresh water during the transport. Other than syphoning to keep under control, are there any other recommendations that you can make?

Thanks,
Eric

Welcome back Eric!

Before you know it, I'll be traveling out to Dekalb for great advice and frags again!

Your funny Ed. It has been sometime since I prowled the boards. My tank is still up and operational but it ain't as pretty as it used to be. I held out the tank long enough for a kiddo to sit in front of it and stare. My plan has worked out beautifully.

Not moving to Dekalb if that's what you were thinking. We are planning a bigger move...from Lisle to LISLE haha

LOL, that's great. Na, I was actually making an obscure reference about Rod. I figured if the old crowd returned, maybe he would as well. Kinda like the Lorax :wildone:

All I can say is I wish I had used the flatworm exit right away.
