Hokay,

So today I forked over quite a bit of money for a brand new Digital SLR camera. I went with a entry level one, that was also one of, if not the cheapest. It cost me $600, but after seeing these pics and what I can do with it, I figured it was totally worth it.

One of the few, if not the last hermits left. He's eating the Bubble Algae.

Pepe Le Tramp our fire shrimp. This was taken shortly after he smacked the mandarin for swimming in his overhang after the mandarin ran from me taking pics.

This is a pic of the sump. The floating white things are what I call Podjects. They are little floating homes for the pods. I have the algae in the in-tank refuge. They consist of the white sheets of plastic that have the squares cut out of them that you get for crafting. Each sheet is seperated by a small strip on the top and bottom to seperate them so the pods can crawl in between. So far they are working pretty good. Just a little experiment I am trying out.

This is a full tank shot. I don't have my hood on yet, have to cut it to fit the MH lights in it.

This is me playing around with the shutter speed to see if I could get a decent night shot w/just the moonlights. Have a little more reading to do, but our old point-and-shoot camera would have "just said no."

All of these were taken tonight after the lights went off without a proper tripod. I still have some learning to do, but so far it is a beautiful camera.

Tomorrow is tank cleanup day. Gots to do all the usual stuff. I think I'm going to take the overflow plumbing off and run some hot water through it tomorrow to get rid of some of the buildup.

I hope some day i can succefully own a pretty fish like a mandarin. nice pics... i would like to know if the pod homes work.

As I attempted to describe. They are the plastic sheets with squares cut into them that you get at the hobby/craft store. Can't think of what they are called. But they look similar to this;

|-|-|-|-|-|-|
|-|-|-|-|-|-|
|-|-|-|-|-|-|

in a 8 1/2 x 11" sheet.

I just cut a strip of of 2 squares x 20 squares and placed that on each end of a square of 20x20 squares. It is similar to this;

Side shot:
___________ <-- Sheet of 20x20 squares
_ _ <-- 2x strips of 20x2 squares on each end
___________
_ _
___________

This leaves one end open to let the pods in. I will get some shots of how to make them here in a few mins. I ran fishing string up through one corner, then down through the next, then up through the other side and down through the other side, finally tying it off. The only problem I have with them so far is that they float, and I would like them to sink. Haven't got the energy to find something safe enough to tie to them to keep them down. Any suggestions?
