My 75

I recently got this tank from a family friend who had freshwater in it. I got the tank and cheap-o steel stand. I wasn't planning on keeping the tank but after a couple cold ones, the diamond hole-saw starting looking at me funny. I checked the tank to see if it was tempered, and saw that I was good to go on the sides. While looking at the bottom, I noticed a manufacturer label of AGA. I decided to drill the tank then... why?.... I have no idea. After the tank was drilled, I painted the back of the tank black, and the bottom white. Now that the tank was all cleaned out, painted, and drilled, I figured I might as well just set the thing up. The stand it came with wasn't going to cut it so I built a new one. I went over to my fathers house to build the stand there because he has more tools than I, and I figured some father-son time would be nice. We just built the frame of the stand and plan to skin it later. Once the stand was back at my house, I placed the tank on it, and put them in their resting place.

I have a frag tank that will be placed next to the 75 and they will be plumbed into the same sump. The frag tank will come later since it currently is my display and has fish and coral in it. Once the 75 is cycled, I'll transfer all the livestock into there and then move and plumb in the frag tank. Plans for the 75 is to be SPS only.

Where the tank will go. I plan on blacking out the two windows that the tank is in front of. They don't get much sunlight, but I'd rather just do it.

Sump lay out. Left side is drain and skimmer, middle is return, and right is fuge. I used acrylic baffles because I wanted to route teeth into the fuge section. I've never used a router in my life, so it came out ok in my book.

Ok Lucy, you have some splaining to do. The pictures are cool but walk me through the design of the drain system, the sump and its chambers, etc... You can get away from this one that easy.... :)

Chris- Thanks. I got the idea from a thread on here but I have no clue which one.

Bartek- Thanks. In your sig it says you have LED's on your 75, and I've been going that route myself. If you dont mind me asking, what is the W/B ratio?

Harry- The pipe running from one bulkhead to the other is how the water will drain out. I slit the pipe on top(1/2") so it's kind of like a coast to coast. I painted it black today so I'll post pictures of it in the tank tomorrow to better understand. I agree. I have 1" drains(x2) and the return(WaterBlaster5000) is reduced 1"-3/4" for the DT, frag tank, fuge, and UV. 1-1/2" reduced for the reactors. And each feed has a valve to control flow.

Planning any kind of mesh or grate to keep critters from clogging the drains?

Looking good man. Let me know when you're ready and I'll send a nice frag pack your way.
Thanks bro! I'll be in contact for sure.
Very enthusiastic overflow there:thumbsup:, i'll keep an eye on the progress, thanks for shearing!
Thanks!

At first the plan was to run some silicone with a qtip along the insides of the slit, then press some netting to it. I see this as a problem because it's kind of like a turf scrubber, and I'm afraid of algae build up. A fellow reefer suggested drilling 3/8" holes along it. I thought about this also, so the pipe is interchangeable. The only parts of the drain pipes in the tank that are glued are the two 45's on each side. I wanted to make it so I could adjust the height of the overflow bar, and by doing this it let's me change it as I like.

Got the painted plumbing all hooked up, and the acrylic cut out for the returns.

Thanks Ninja!

This is the sand I got for the DT. Still debating what to put in the fuge.

I moved the BRS reactor because I didn't like it in the middle.
