My 80 Gallon Build

premilove

The Empire
Hey RC. My deep blue 30g tank is way too packed. I have been debating between the deep blue 60g 48"x24"x12" and the 80g 48"x24"x16", and finally pulled the trigger on the 80g today. This is going to be a very slow build!

Tank: Deep Blue 80g 48"x24"x16"
Sump: 40 gallon breeder, I will be making this myself.
Return pump: Water Blaster 3000
Skimmer: Reef Octopus DCS-150. I have heard good things about this skimmer and the controllable Diablo pump.
Flow: 2 MP10wES
Lighting: 2 Ecotech Radion G2

The tank should be in about 2 weeks. I plan on setting up the tank, and using water from my 30g for water changes. I would like to use the sand from my 30 gallon as well. I will end up siphoning a few pounds of sand into the 80g every week. I would love any input or recommendations!

Only comment I can make about what is an awesome equipment list is you may find that 2 mp10s aren't enough in an 80 gallon sps tank. Maybe do one mp40 and an mp 10. Other than that nice list. I can't wait to see that skimmer in action

I was thinking the same about 2 mp10's. I'm going to do more research about it. What if I had them both on max power?

I'll definitely look into that. Thank you for the input. I am hoping this new skimmer works out great. As soon as I get it I will post pictures!

Excited to see this tank come along. Exact tank i have. Is it the rimless one? Not to HiJack the thread but here is the link to my build http://test.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2168479. You might avoid some things i had to go through. I have a MP40 at the moment and its JUST enough. I dont think 2 mp10s will be enough. I am thinking to add another mp10, or mp40 but that will be overkill. Might try one of those wp25s from jebao to test them out.

If you plan on getting the MP40 and having sps i reccommend caribsea seaflor reef grade sand. Its a bit more coarse and doesnt float around as much. They come in large 40lb bags and are dry and only run around $40. One bag will give you about 2 inches of sand, a second bag will give you a bit of a deeper sand bed. Then again, i dont know what kind of sand you have at the moment but be careful about transitioning the sand from old tank to new tank. You might bring in some un wanted detritus, nitrates and phosphates.

Hey it isn't rimless. I didn't have the guys to go rimless on a 4ft tank with constant water movement. I'm def going to take a look at your thread I'm glad I found someone with the same tank!

Yeah that's the type of substrate I have now in my 30g. Going to use the same, it's the best!

I called ecotech and they said my mp10's will be enough as long as I keep them close to full power. We will see. If anything, I'll get one mp40 and keep 1 mp10. I def will not buy one of those knock offs. I don't trust that company. I rather spend the extra money and get an ecotech product for the extra quality!

Lol pics will come once the tank is here- next Wednesday! You can check the inhabitants in my current build thread in my signature..

Lol...sorry. Im picking up an 80 gallon in about a month so Im checking out what people are doing with the aquascapes.

In that case I'd definitely go for 1 mp40 and 1 mp10. If that's too much, you can just dial down the 40 until it is appropriate
