My $800 Black Clowns

I got them from O' street's display tank . . . Not!

Exotic $21.99/ea. About 3 in long. They got one left.

You might be right, darn it. They were sold to me as black percs. Hmm . . . more research needed.

Oh well, I guess they are really just a $44 pair of clowns, which I think are awesome. And since I couldn't tell the difference at the store, it really shouldn't matter to me. Although it does bug me a bit that they were mislabeled.

Still a great deal on some nice fish.

As far as I understand the true "black percs" are actually A. ocellaris from certain parts of Australia. They can be distinguished from A. polymnus in a few ways.

1) The head and mouth of A. polymnus is pretty distinctively blunt and "frowny" compared to A. ocellaris. And look at those teeth!

2) The second white stripe is much wider in A. polymnus, and will almost never reach to the bottom side of the fish in A. polymnus. It will in A. ocellaris, except maybe in some rare mis-barred individuals. The distinguishing characteristic of A. polymnus from all other clowns is the width of the second white stripe on the top of the soft dorsal fin. Alot of stores try to sell these fish as the black clowns which always gets confused with the real all black ocellaris clown fish.

Nice pick up, Xia. The fish seem to be a lot healthier at Exotic, now. Hopefully, they'll be able to clear up the coral and invert tanks.

for some reason a lot of wholesalers mislable them black percs and sometimes the shops dont catch the error.i always see them marked that way at this wholesale in new haven,ct

yeah those are def. black saddlebacks... careful, they can get a little aggressive... and fairly big.
