My 80g endeavor to SPS domination!!!

I can't see myself adding sps after a week to a new tank with all dead rocks. I would at least get a few nice live rocks directly from a local reefer to seed them.

I seeded it with some "bacteria in a bottle", so we will have to wait and see, all my params are in check so why not add coral?

I don't think there is actual bacteria in those bottle. They are just to create an ideal environment for the bacteria start producing. You will have some ammonia and nitrite linger until those bacteria populate and that will kill your corals.

agreed your taking it way to fast. Most people try to create a reef environment overnight and it's not feasible. You really need to buy rock from a local fish store that has all the sponges, tubeworms, critters, pods, worms, etc, etc. How are you going to be able to seed your liverock with those necessary critters. I know you had hitchhikers or whatever, but you need to seed the rock with natural microdetivores from the ocean in order to have the proper balance of nitrifying creatures. We all are trying to recreate the ocean, right? I'm very doubtful people put a ton of fish with all dry rock and not have any casualties, that wouldn't work and you are causing undo stress/death on the fish and corals. These are sensitive animals and IMO it seems like you're getting a little ahead of yourself. Good luck and hope everything works out this time around.

On a brighter note, nice pics! I like the setup of rocks and the organization by providing a fish room. The fish room really makes a huge difference on the ease of maintenance. My advise would be to add a 10-20 gallon fuge with cheato. I mean you probably have the room, right!?! lol

that's the same tank i have, i did the math on it and it came out to 80g for me, i dunno maybe i did it wrong, but i used a unit converter on my iphone. craftsmanship on it isn't so good, the silicone work was way sloppy and i had to trim some up, but the dimensions are great, and the starphire is awesome as well.

I acquired 10 new frags, they are a little browned out form shipping but should color up in the next few weeks

The rock and sand you put in your tank is empty of life and the bacteria needed to maintain a healthy tank. Now you go and start to add fish/corals with no established bacterial colonies which will end up adding waste to your system. The waste will lead to high trates/phosphates and you will endup having algae issues. Ive seen it too many times. Theres a reason many people wait 6-8wks to add fish/corals. Its your money, your time, and your effort...but theres wisdom in the phase, patience is a virtue. Do yourself a favor and slow down and add a few pieces of LR and wait till you can create a system of stability.

One of my all time Favorites. good pick up!

What are you using for filtration? I'll have to agree....you need more bio filtration and you need to slow down. What happened to the, "I'll wait a few weeks before adding coral"?

The only issue I had was some diatoms on the sand bed, but that was 3 days ago and they are pretty much gone. I have also done two 15 gallon water changes since start up. Also Monday was the first day that I had to clean the glass since start up. I still only have the one fish and plan on keeping it that way seems how he is the only source of waste for the most part due to feeding and what not. My skimmer has really started to increase the amount of skimate it produces. All the polyps on my coral are fully extended and show no signs of stress.

rireuter and i started our aquaria nearly at the same time. I was maybe two weeks ahead of him, and we both used the same method. I saw NO rise in any nutrients, no spikes at all. Maybe we have just been lucky, but I think a lot of stuff in this hobby is over-emphasized. We also both used, and are still using bacteria supplements.

Looking good man!
