SPS OG
So, a quick backstory on how I obtained them:
About 2.5 years ago, I decided to help a fellow reefer out as he was having issues with his corals. I took a look and thought it could be either red bugs or phosphates. Never even thought about looking for AEFW (since I never had them or understood what they really were).
My beautiful reef turned into a dead zone. Colony after colony was thrown out. I was losing hope. I didn't know what to do aside for the dip-dip-dip method. Of note, having a 320 gallon display wasn't so practical for that dip method.
So I went with the Levamisole in-tank treatment. That went well for the most part. I did 4 treatments as advertised, and things looked great. I didn't see one AEFW for months. Then about 4 months ago, I saw a few on a tricolor acro. Then a few more on A. multiacuta, and more on a A. humilis.
That was what broke my back. I need a method that ELIMINATED them with certainty and not some band aid aproach that is going to lead me to nowhere.
So here is what I plan on setting up (for the last time I hope):
1. 30 Gal QT
2. 1 MH Pendant
3. Maxi Jet Powerhead
4. 1 Heater (if necessary)
5. 2 Cleaner Shrimp
6. Continuous water change
7. Zeovit Flatworm Stop
The idea is very simple, keep the display SPS-less for 5-6 months to guarantee that there were no AEFW left behind to repopulate. The 30 gal tank will serve as a tank that will be very stable for SPS to grow and continue life while being treated with the Zeovit Flatworm Stop. The cleaner shrimp are going to be there to eat those worms/eggs which are visible. I have experimented with cleaners before where they ate a rock full of porites flatworms. So I have a feeling that they are going to expedite the elimination of these pests even further.
I am going to post some pics in this thread to show what I am dealing with. Maybe someone can benefit from this and not go through 2 years of pain with these pests. :artist:
