I saw a post about battling BA and commented similarly but wanted to share with the broader group.
ATS - Algae Turf Scrubber, are available commercially but can be made DIY, check YouTube vids for the DIY versions. I went with the DIY version because honestly it cost me $5 and took less than 15 minutes to make and it looks just like what you'd buy.
Anyway, why i went this route...? I had a sump failure which required me to replace the entire sump, when i made the new sump i tweaked the original design to shrink the return chamber. When doing this it made it difficult to use my GFO reactor, but i really didn't care as it never really did anything for me in over a year's worth of use...
Anyway, the sump started to break in and grew the beginnings of GHA, i have been battling GBA for over a year also but made the scrubber to control the GHA.
On to the point, sorry... The Sump is looking very clean the GHA is only growing new sprouts on the ATS, the existing GHA on other things in the sump are starting to thin...the weirdest and most unexpected thing is the damn bubble algae is significantly producing less...
Based on this i would recommend building a turf scrubber if you have nitrate/phosphate issues. it provides a place for it to grow safely, my ATS is not even under water so it's out of the system and is very small.
Just wanted to share my experience, i've only been running it for a few weeks and it's already helping.
