my anenome is too big

My anenome is too big....it does have three "roots" but how do I separate them? Pls. help because it really does need to be separated and moved into another tank. Any ideas/suggestions?

No, but my tank is a 24 nano and its located at the top left corner and it spreads out to the middle - ultimately it takes up about 1/6th of my tank. I'm a new-by at this hobby so pls advise me what to do. Thanks. Yola

by roots... do you mean its 'foot' or the bottom of the anemone that burys itself in rocks or sand?

if thats right.. are you saying it is split in three?

how long have they been split into three?

if all is correct.. and they JUST started splitting... you may have 3 smaller anemones shortly....

what kind of anemone are we talking about?

I guess I'm talking about about its foot - they look like "branches" that lead into the live rock and each branch has an anemone top - its a beigh/greenish color with pick tips. I got it this way from someone who was downsizing his tank about 3 weeks ago - its doing fine except that its so huge for my nano. He actually was trying to get 1 foot to move off the rock but it wouldn't get off, so he gave me all three. I have a 12 gal nano that only have rock and some soft corals, zoos in it, so I'm thinking that if it splits I'll move a small anemone in there - but how do I do it????

im not even sure your talking about an anemone. can you do a search and find a picture that looks similar? also search for torch coarl and frog spawn

if it was an anemone splitting u would do nothing. it would do it on its own

besides the tenicles and the sisk.. is the 'roots' or foot hard or soft?

Are you sure that you don't have a frogspawn coral instead of an anemone?

It is a bulb anemone with pink tips - the foot is definetly soft.

Ok, so when it splits, besides doing nothing, can I remove the split section and put iit into another tank? Will it be free-floating or will it attach itself to another rock?

If it splits you need to wait a little while for it to heal before messing with it. Please try to get a pic of this, I've got to see this one.

Thanks for all your help, suggestions & questions. I think I'll be fine with the anemone (I really don't think its a frogspawn)- did some reading and pic searches through all the forums and got some hints there. As a matter of fact, one of the feet seems to be sliding down the rock at the back of the tank, so I suppose it's splitting. Thanks again for all your patience with me. "Newbie" Yola

yola... then please please borrow a camera and get the three way split. I love that stuff

after a split an anemone needs to regrow its mouths, they will all reattach to rocks.. look kinda crappy.. grow there mouths.. start looking normal...

I see, you have three anemones That was a little confusing. Looks like it was one which successfully split into three. If they have been like that for a while and are now eating, it is safe to move them to different tanks.

Thanks, they are eating & doing too well, I'll be moving them soon. Yeah, it did split into 3 and all are healthy & happy.
