Probably old hat for most of you - BUT so exciting for me I blew off a trip into Boston when I saw what was happening in my tank.

Thanks Gary!!

If you spot feed them, they'll split more often. I started with 4...I think I have over a dozen now scattered about...they can/will move! Some are relatively small...some are almost 2" in diameter but usually split at that point.

Sara, if you want to split them more often, just spot feed them some mysis/brine...I use a long rigid airline tube fitted with a plastic/rubber bulb on the end (for drawing up/expelling)...works very well to get that food there. I've found that once these guys get a good hold of some food, its almost impossible for my cleaner shrimp to steal it...if the anemones were any larger, the shrimp themselves may become food! :D

so far mine seem to split at night when the lights are out....so I never got the chance to see them splitting.

Tony - Instead of brine try feeding them fresh squid from the store and soak it in selcon. My anemones absolutely loved the squid, more than anything else I tried.

Even the mini carpets?

All of them loved it. I've tried squid, octopus, scallops, shrimp, and some kind of fish (I forget what kind it was.) I tried putting them together in all sorts of mixtures with vitamins and Selcon. The best results I had were with just fresh shrimp and just fresh squid. Both mixed with Selcon. Individually they were devoured. I also found that, like humans, they like a variety so every feeding was different. One night squid, one night shrimp, etc...

When I got mine, Gary said feed mysis so I do. I soak half a cube of Mysis and half a cube of brine shrimp in Selcon and feed the mysis to the anenomes, brain, plate and big shrimp. The clowns seem to like brine shrimp and flake the best.

I use chopsticks to feed the anenomes and corals. I only have a nano and find I have the best control that way.

I did get to see the whole process - it took about 4 hours from the time I thought something was wrong, to the time they moved apart from each other. Linda - I have more pics which I will post in my gallery.

Sara - That's cool that you got to watch the whole thing. I watched my bubble tip split. It also took some time but it was neat to watch.

I think the main thing with feeding them is find something they like and since they like the mysis, stick with it. I'm a stubborn italian so I like making things more complicated than they really need to be!
