my attempt at creating Thielli

The babies came from a standard ocy (female) and a darwin B&W (male). Sorry it didnt have anything to do with the thielli.

Well just a small update, the 2 that are in the fuge are now sleeping together. It is very hard to get a pic of them because they are deep in the culpuria(sp). The others have just been put with other clowns so they are just starting.

The skunks I have are wild caught from the Solomon Islands, I wanna know the linage of all the clowns. and nothing against ORA but I have seen quite a few deformed fish from them lately which I would rather stay away from.

Nice thread. And nice posts I read here.

But I have to make a comment about Solomon Islands fishes.

Amphiprion thiellei is a Sunda Shelf species.

And Amphiprion leucokranos is a Sahul Shelf species.

Amphiprion sandaracinos from Solomon Islands have Amphiprion leucokranos in their Genetics.

To make true Amphiprion thiellei is better to find fishes from Philippines.

My suggestion is find some large Skunks from Philippines, and pair them with tiny Ocellaris.

Amphiprion thiellei belongs to Asiatic Realm. Sunda Shelf.

And Amphiprion leucokranos belongs to Australian Realm. Sahul Shelf.

Better avoid Solomons fishes.

And you have a nice thread here. I will follow.

Good Luck.

But, you can use these Solomon Islands Amphiprion sandaracinos, to attempt breed Amphiprion leucokranos.

You can use Amphiprion chrysogaster from the same region, from Solomon Islands, GBR or PNG.

These Amphiprion chrysogaster have black pelvic and anal fins. And a white tail.

I've been think about attempting this. But then I realized it would be easier to just buy a pair of A.Thielli. It's going to be a year and a half before I get them. And plus they almost cost 3k for the pair...

Thankyou very much for all that info yuri it is very helpful.

I guess i never even thought that the solman island skunk would make that much of a diffrence and was looking for clowns that wernt cought with cycinid. But it does make sence. I thought about getting a couple blue stripes to pair with the skunks also but gotta find room for more tanks first lol

I have right now got 1skunk and one ocy that looks like they will end up as a pair, they both swim together and sleep in the same spot but they are young still so no guarentees. The others are still bickering back and fourth but not enough to cause damage to each other yet.

I appreciate your try..........and I´m anxious to see the results...........

I was studing Amphiprion ocellaris Queue Selection in this article.......

http://www.ucs.mun.ca/~jsmitchell/Reprints/AB2005.pdf

The study shows that fishes accepted in the Colony.........by the Dominant pair.........have less than 2cm............

So if you want to form pairs..........possibly success is achieved when you use small juvs...........

And then you have to wait a little bit to them grow up till maturity.

You are in the right path.

Try to make many pairs at the same time is a good way.

But work with a single Amphiprion sandaracinos Female........could be intresting........

And you work with less tanks............and improve the quality of the breeding fishes............selecting specific individuals...........

Just get a large.........fat.........Orange Skunk Female............a Philippine one.....

And select at least 4 ocy individuals from your batch............

But be carefull because this could be very dangerous.............to the juvs......

Watch this thread.......

http://www.ucs.mun.ca/~jsmitchell/Reprints/AB2005.pdf

The Female.........or the pair in this case..............select just one juv............and avoid the rest...............as happens in the Nature...............many descend from the Plancton...........but just one is the choosen to participate of the Queue.............(or live in the same nem)........the rest is avoided.............

http://www.tcmas.org/v4/forums/showthread.php?30364-orange-ocellaris-trio

In this case the Author had no time to separate the rejected juvs.........and lost them all...........

But the selected one thrive along with the breeding pair............

You shoul try this "method"............

Yes..........this becomes a serious method to introduce more fishes in the Queue ..........

But you have to keep your eyes on it................till the process of pairing finish.............and the fishes come back to normal state.............with the selected juv. together.........

I think that one large Skunk Female...........with 4 or more ocy juvs will reduce agressivity of the Female...............

And maybe she choose one of them...........

In my oppinion you have to avoid non matured Skunk females..........or Juv Skunks........

In my oppinion you have to select a good Skunk Female first..........

This is just some ideas that you have to think about..........

You don´t have to do it...........but I think that you have to try it........at leat once........

Re creating Thielle´s or White Bonnets is a good work with clownfishes.......never done..........or never well docummented..............

I wish I could really update more but noting much has changed a whole lot, I am trying to take pics of them at night as they are sleeping side by side one another but it has proven hard to get a good pic.

I did search for some sandaracinos from the Philippine's but that is proving to be difficult. I am waiting on some blue stripe clowns to pair up with the skunks I do have though. for the moment I am gonna keep the skunk and ocy pair I do have that are getting along with together just to see what the outcome will be if they will breed.

here is a short video I did take of the 2 though.

sorry everyone for the long delay, the tank went on auto for a while as family medical stuff came up and that comes first.

as for the update they are deff a pair now, looks like the female will be the ocy. they are still liveing in my fuge and doing good but until I get the fuge cleaned up it is hard to get a pic. calperia, and cheato has over grown the thing lol

Will try to get pics up soon. Finally got the fuge cleaned up in the 10 months the tank was on auto i didnt touch anything on it, just went by looking at the fish and corals to see if anything was wrong.

Anyway after takeing out 4-5 gal buckets of cheato packed full and a good 1/4 of a 5 gal bucket full of poop, ditrus and such i ran a nitrate test from salifert and it was 0. And my hanna phosphate checker read .01. Actually surprised they were that low with all the gunk i pulled out but i am sure all that cheato helped alot.
