My attempt at Purple Queen Anthias

9 months in and mine are still going strong. They've started testing a couple different brands of flake food, so I now have two auto feeders (one flake, one pellet), and I feed frozen foods every evening. I added freeze dried cyclopeeze to the pellet feeder so now my purple queen's eat three times a day. They've gained a bit of weight, but are by no means fat.
 
Over a year now, still have all three. Thought I'd update as I'm sitting here watching them much on bits of nori that are getting torn off/spit out by my rabbit, tang, and cowfish. If you keep them long enough it seems they eventually figure out how to eat as many prepared foods as any other fish.
 
Nice job with them, glad to hear the progress. I've been itching to get a group again but haven't seen any worth bringing home. Did you find yours locally or order them in.
 
Locally. I bought them completely on impulse without knowing anything about them. I didn't do any research on them until I had them at home and in QT (the wrong way to buy fish I might add), then found threads on RC and was convinced they'd be dead before they even made it to the display. I have three males, they all hang out together and have developed very accentuated tail and ventral fin streamers. I think their noses have gotten pointier too. They spend most of the day schooling with my 5 Dsipar anthias, and they all sleep together in the same rock hollow.

I had never seen them in a store before, and haven't seen any since.
 
It's hard to believe, but I'm coming up on two years. My three males are still going strong, they have disinctly different personalities, and have physical quirks that make them individually identifiable. Of my 8 anthias, one of my purple queens is the boldest. He doesn't care if I'm working in the tank - the rest will bolt for the rocks if someone makes a loud noise in the kitchen, but even with my arm in the tank up to the shoulder, one of my purple queens is out expecting me to feed him.

They've also gone from the most timid eaters, to the most aggressive. One has learned to pluck food that settles on the sand while the pumps are in feed mode up, while the others ignore anything that's not in the water column. They also show off to to my female dispars all the time.

Not sure how long they live, but they definitely seem to be in the prime of life.

So are we at 3 years yet?

I picked up a group of 5 today. They have decent weight to them. I hope to get them eating some smaller foods here shortly.
 
The longest they have lived for me is three years and from what I read on them is that's about their life expectancy. I don't know anyone who had them longer so hopefully yours are the exception... GL

How does every one qt them? I have a qt set up with half dosage, will that be okay?
