My Azooxanthellae LPS & Anemone Aquarium

After a few years of frustrating trial and error, and a few tank builds and tank crashes later, this is hopefully my last NPS Reef tank build thread. I have given up on keeping nps softies and gorgonians. They are too demanding for my lifestyle, and I was wrong to try and tailor their needs to fit my schedule. I believe that to keep these corals long term, you need to stick to a strict schedule because any slight change in daily routine/feeding will result in unhappy corals. I am going to stock the tank strictly with NPS LPS corals, tube anemones, and NPS anemones like the waratah's.

My system is a 93 gallon Marineland Cube. I believe the dimensions are
30 X 30 X 24.

I have a 30 gallon sump. Instead of Bio Balls I am using Neo Zeo filter material in a mesh bag and a large protein skimmer.

To keep the nutrients under control I dose Reef Bio-Fuel 5ml 2 times per day,
MicroBacter 7 5 ml 4 timer per day, as well as the Neo Zeo zeolith media.

So far my nitrates have dropped from 40+ to 10 And my phosphates have dropped from 3 to 1 over the course of around 3-4 weeks. When the nitrates and phosphates drop to zero, I will adjust the dosage to the maintenance dose.

My lighting is LED

My Current Live Stock List Is

Fish
1 Flame Angel
1 Long-nose Hawkfish
1 Five-lined Cardinal
1 Pair of Black Ocellaris Clownfish
1 Comet
1 Mandarin

1 Aussie Sun Coral
3 Unknown Tubastrea sp.

And I finally got a decent shot of my black sun coral that I'm trying to get to recover from starvation at a LFS

Hello

really the gorgonias do not allow changes and it is necessary to be very strict in his maintenance and it is not easy to do it.

a lot of luck in this new project that surely with all the experience will turn out to be better.

that black sun coral is absolutely huge, hope you can revive it :)

Reef Kid, I hope I can revive it as well. You are right, it is a huge colony and will be a complete show stopper once it gets nourished back to health.
It is showing some great progress. I feed my fish at least twice daily and it starts to open after about 10 minutes. It really responds to squirting cyclopeeze and nutramar ova. After that I can predict which polyps open first and I target feed FM LPS Pellets. So far only part of the colony has fed but it is coming along slowly but nicely.

Couldn't of said it better myself :)

Thank You!!! I hope it turns out better as well:)

Ok so I need some advice. I have strong LED lighting but its only purpose is to keep my crispa anemone alive. I am contemplating mixing some deep water acro's, once my nutrients drop to proper levels. What do you guys think? Is this a good Idea? I am a complete boob when it comes to sps corals so I am going to ask a dumb question. What are the nutrient parameters that acro's can tolerate? Right now my phosphate is down to a little less than 1 and my nitrate is at 10. Is this too much nutrients for acro's?

Thanks

Wow ~ nice tank! I love dendro, sun corals and rhizo also! It's always funny for me to see an anemone in a NPS tank, because anemone need pretty strong light and the other corals don't.

I have an RBTA in my NPS also, so it's always funny when I see another person has the same thing!

So how many times has this happened to you? You go to your LFS to just get water and any other necessity, determined not to purchase any new livestock, but then while your there you find that one coral that tempts you until you buy it, convincing yourself it will look much better in your tank. This hobby really is an addiction!!!

So here's the coral I just bought.

Im not sure what species it is, but it looks like a dendro/tubastrea hybrid( which i know it is not but thats just what it looks like to me.

Any ideas on ID'ing it?

Thanks

I'm resigned to the fact that that happens now.
