My Berghia Verrucicornis Nudibranch Breeding Tank Log *pics*

if the nudies eat the aipasia fast enough there will be no aiptasia.. the population of nudies will controll its self. alot of stuff alot of nudes. not enough aipatsia then less nudies. and if i saw a problom id cut the aiptasia tank off of the main and add them manualy. (reef tank) im also hoping for some flat worms so i can have the cool flat worm eating nudies.

sulp asdar as i know the nudies will eliminate almost the entire population then starve since they cant find the remaining few. so by adding new ones all the time they will maintain it.

do you intend to manualy add aiptasia everyday. how will you handel this when you are arnt home.?

sulp if you get this going i will buy afew from you. and a few aiptasia since i havenever been lucky enough to have a pest.. and i dont think i willg et anythis time either.
look up my tank thread. i will post it shortly in large tank fourm.. you can see how CRAZY i am. :) >>dances around is 1k tide / current simulater <<

It sounds like you have eveything under control. It's so nice when people in this hobby come up with a "great idea" and attempt it withought doing thier research. I'm glad to see you have done your homework.

I wish i had the time and patience to do something out of the ordinary with a tank...but instead I think I'll sit back and watch you do your thing.

This is just a thought that ran through my head that was started by Thorsx. If "pods" were a large problem with the reproduction cycle of the Berghia sp., then why not find a way to end that. Would you think having your Aiptasia grow out tank and Berghia grow out tank be better off if cleansed with Interceptor? Obviously you would want to pull out all the Aiptasia and Berghia you can, but leave as much rock and such in there as possible so you can kill all the "pods". This might eliminate the "pods eating eggs" factor. Just a thought.

Julio - I never claimed to know more than you at all. I claimed that I was starting to breed the nudis and posting a thread on my progress. You said I could never start a business with it because you need hundreds of nudis to eat SOME aiptasia. Now does that statement make sense? Apparently people are buying these things like crazy and just about every online vendor is out of stock. So if they are selling out like crazy and if you do need hundreds (which you don't) then wouldn't that make for a VERY successful business? I think so. Anyway I'm not trying to start some big business. If I am successful at breeding then yes I will sell a few but I'm not looking to quit my job doing it.

Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas? Geeze, If you were heading up a study with Anthony Calfo in such huge proportions wouldn't you think at a minimum you would be able to spell "Aiptasia"? Show me some of the data or credentials. Honestly I could care less. I'm doing my thing regardless. I wanted this to be a nice, informative thread. Not a flame thrower. If anyone wants to follow my progress...you are more than welcome.

GO SULP! I woulda been alot meaner lol :)
i hope u keep doing this thread and dont give up because people put you down.

1890 somthing. " it is impossialbe ot fly"
there are always people who think some one cant do somthing. or may actualy know more but it takes an idiot to solve somthing they couldent :)

Really I don't understand why so many are jumping on sulp and telling him he can't do this. The methods to do this are well documented and these have been cultured in captivity for over 15 years. This is not some uncharted territory. The methods are well established and not outside of what any normal hobbyist can do.

3. I got many egg casing spirals on the tank glass. I noticed 10 to 15 for each each breeding cycle but never noticed young Nudis hatching.

That's because the larvae are too small to see. If you don't give them food once they hatch they starve fairly quickly. It takes about 10-12 days for the eggs to hatch so after a little more than a week you need to make sure that there are several Aiptasia present in the tank at all times.

im also hoping for some flat worms so i can have the cool flat worm eating nudies.
They aren't nudibranchs, but bubble shells. They are all wild caught and are doomed in captivity. They would be much harder to culture since their larvae are planktonic for much longer and feed on phyto during that time. Also, no one knows what the cue is that causes them to settle out and metamorphose.

this seems like a post with the same mentality of the girl keepin dwarf sea horses in a mason jar. ' I'll do it and i dont give a $**** what you think, what you know more than me, i dont care." but good luck to you none the less

Except sulp is using variations of the established methods. I'm fairly sure he's read up on how to do this. I pointed him in the direction of a paper on the subject and he mentioned to me other reading he had already done on the subject.

Yea and I know that some of he people giving info were kinda harsh but if some one has alot of experiance then you should try to learn from em

sulp,

I gather you have Anthonys article on the subject?

http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2004-01/ac/feature/index.htm

From his opening paragraph he states:

" Berghia are not only attractive, easy to keep, and easy to breedââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¦ but they also readily consume one of the most bothersome pest organisms in marine aquaria: Aiptasia anemones (AKA glass anemones)."
:)

So go for it and good luck. If you are successful I would certainly buy some from you. Don't let negative comments hold you back.

.. if i was a mod on this fourm several people here would be instantly banned.

now as far as i see it. If he buys them and fails... at least they had a chance of survival.. keeping them in a store / holding facility they are gurenteed to die.. selling them to an ignorant person gureenteed death

>< iv donestupid things befor... but he wont learn unless he fails. and then everyone would learn from his failiur and then the deaths of those animals did somthing good

yeah, it's real sweet when people like Julio can call people names (real professional), but because they are in the "RC Clique" mods could care less.

[Reefcherie: You are entitled to your opinion of course, but please consider that the RC Mods may not be aware of an issue and can't possibly closely monitor all of the thousands of posts that are made each day. Feel free to use the Report this Post button]

Keep it up man, I need some of those Berghias!
:)

And no I dont think your in the same boat as the girl with sea horses in a mason jar. but yea this girl is supposidly keeping dwarf SHs in a mason jar. But yea my appologies guys.

Alexinfla - Thanks for the support. I'll definatley get you a couple nudis when the time comes.

Greenbean- Thanks as always for the support and the great info you provide. You're a great addition to this forum and have helped me numerous times in many different areas.
