Thanks for looking!

that looks awesome and i cant wait to see it stocked!!
Its hard to Id your led module without a close up shot. what are you looking to stock?

Thanks justhaag!

Yeah ill snap a closer up shot of the light when I get home tonight.

For livestock I was thinking this:

-2 ocellaris clowns
-yellow watchmen goby(or another goby of some sort)w/ pistol shrimp
-blue spot jaw fish
-neon dottyback

As for corals I was just planning on having a mixed reef, nothing to special but I wanted to keep only very bright and vibrant corals (probably mostly zoanthids and chalices). I dont have much experience wih sps but I want to try my hand in it since i have the lighting for it, I figured I could just start out with montiporia and other easier to care for sps.

Tank looks good! Keep an eye out for some green birdnest, it looks great in nano's and with those LEDs it will just POP with color. There are real easy to care for and pretty hardy.

Thanks tin!
Yeah that's what I was thinking I wanted to pick up on a green and purple birdnest at some point. I need yo get a skimmer though first. Is there any recommendations anyone can give me am a good somewhat cheap skimmer?(im on a budget)

I'm using a aquaticlife 115, it does ok, just make sure to do the airline mod if you go that way, but on the down side you can't get a very dry skimmate with it. I use a ATO and keep water levels very constant, but it didn't help it much. I still skims though, it just a "green tea" skimmate. I'm picking up a HOB type this weekend, the Aquamaxx HOB-1, I like the fact it overflows back into the pump and not your floor. As I've been told, I can get a nice drier nasty skimmate. These can be a little pricey new, but I'm getting this one gently used for half price. So I jumped on it.

What I'm going to do I think is just watch craigslist and my local reef forum like a hawk and hopefully find a good deal on one.

I still need an ato though so that will have to come first.

I'm trying to set this tank up the right way and not be sloppy with it like my last nano.

The diatom/algae bloom started today, now im one step closer to getting livestock! I know this is going to sound weird but this is the first tank ive gotten green hair algae in, my last last was seeded from dry rock and dry sand and i never had algae come in on any frags.

Changed around the scape a little bit tonight and checked my parameters to see how the cycle is going and I think it just about done.

Salinity:1.022
Ammonia: .25ppm
PH: 8.0
Nitrates: 0ppm
Nitrites:0ppm

Think its about time to add a cleanup crew then huh

Heres a pic of the scape as is.

Tanks lookin good, looks like the cycle is done yes? Need to get someone in there to mow the lawn, I have two small spots of hair algae, it stays on the same to pieces of rock but the crabs keep the lawn nice and tidy! lol

No. Dont add anything yet. You arent done cycling. You are reading ammonia. That is what is toxic during a cycling to critters.

And your salinity is low. Are you using a refractometer or hydrometer?

Yeah i was gunna wait until the ammonia was completely gone which hopefully will be soon, and ive been taking my water to get tested at my lfs for salinity. I dont have a refractometer its on my list of things to get still, it just keeps getting longer and longer :headwalls:

Just wait it out until you have no ammonia and 0 or very minimal nitrates. Then get a CUC.

And its only been 2 weeks since your first post. Im not sure if thats the day you set it up, but give it 2 more weeks to finish cycling

I guess i got a bit over zealous after reading in another thread that its ok to add the cuc at .25ppm? This algae drives me nuts...
