Well really my sons new Biocube. I will be picking up some fully cured live rock this week. I used a bag of agralive just for the hell of it . Also cut the first over flow chamber wider to get more depth in the chambers.I took out all the bio balls and drip trays this allowed me to get the heater in the 2nd chamber and I plan using it as a refugia..........more to come soon.

aah, the arag-alive lol..test the water..its prolly gonna show some pretty high spikes, thats my guess. That stuff sits on the shelves....the longer it sits, the more stuff dies, and the temperature on the shelves probably isnt even enough to keep some of the stuff alive. I've picked up one of those bags at petco a while ago and i passed for that very reason...it was cold. I figured mostly everything had to be dead in there.

Anyways...the easy parts over now...now you get to be frustrated with your rock not connecting together right lol :)

I noticed lots of air bubbles in the sand alll the way around next to the glass .....I quess its gas from breakdown of dead stuff.
I'm going to start checking parameters.

im in the process of setting up the same tank, but i built my own stand instead of using there's. nice job on setting up the tank. if i can figure out how to post pics i will show my progress. take care

I like what you have done so far.

I have the 8 gallon myself.

I don't understand why everyone is cutting the slot in the first chamber wider. I left the opening stock; and the water level in the last chamber stays wherever I set it, whether full to the top or set to the minimum level on the side.

I don't see anything wrong with doing it, but I don't see how it would affect the water level. Maybe the 29 is different.

I hope that you and your son enjoy the new tank. Looking forward to seeing what you guys do with it.

After cutting the overflow my water level in all back chambers is almost all the way full .It gives me room for a refugia in the middle chamber and my heater fits verticaly no problem. before I did this the chamber in the middle was maybe only half or less full.
I am not using any foam by the pump and no carbon filter in the overflow either. going all natural here......(no bio balls). If I have time I'll take some pics.

update

Some pics showing the water level after cutting first chamber overflow. I also swaped the stock pump for a Maxijet 1200.... some flow increase was noticed but not much.

Also added more rock and re-aquascaped.
