My blue linckia might have eaten my shrimp

or not,..but its still a mystery.

I have 2 skunk shrimp, a gigantic blue linckia and a flame hawk. First i noticed that the shrimp were staying close to the surface behind the powerheads instead of on the rock as usual. I realised one of the shrimp was wounded. Part of his chest was sort of torn. So my first thought is that bastard the flame hawk. So i started constructing a trap.

The next day, the wounded shrimp is nowhere to be found. The flame hawk doesnt have a protruding belly, rather,.. the blue linckia does. Its base is all swollen as if she had eaten the shrimp.

Is that even possible ?

Very doubtful.

They don't move fast enough to catch a live shrimp.

They supposely eat some sort of film off the rocks. That's why it's recommended that if you try to keep one at all, you should have a mature tank with at least 200 pounds of live rock.

Unfortunately, even under the best of conditions, they usually don't survive in our tanks.

Best of luck,

Roy

Roy the keyword is supposedly. So far from my research nobody really knows what they eat. I wasnt home to see it but the shrimp might have died and the linckia picked it up. So it might be a plausible scenario,..otherwise i have no idea what that bulge on the linckia was.

It does indeed sound unlikely.
