My Brain is reproducing w/Pic

The focal point is only connected by the base and what appears to be a little mouth. It looks as if its going to drop it soon and I was wondering if it gets closer to the time can I cut it off with a razor blade so I don't loose the frag? Picked up this coral for free a while back, it wasn't doing well in its previous home.

Nobody has had one do this? I don't want to loose the peice that is about to drop off.

Can I cut it off with a razor blade?

I would leave it as is; I don't know if a razor blade would cut through it as nicely as you think either. It looks like the coral may be budding a new polyp, and the new polyp probably has a skeleton. For a skeleton, I believe most people prefer to use something along the lines of a dremel. Using a razor blade may end up compromising the health of both the parent colony, and the bud, IMO.
When the polyp does become released from the parent however, I wouldn't worry too much about losing it, unless the flow in that area of the tank is so strong it can carry it away.

I would leave it alone. Cutting it could cause the mother colony to get infected. If you are worried about losing it try moving the coral to a low flow area where it can't get blown away if it drops.

Peace
Rob

Agreed. Let it be. You stand to lose only by messing with it. You wrote that this coral was struggling in another system, and now it appears to be thriving in yours. Sweet! You are doing well. Sometimes my tank appears to be doing the best when I haven't had time to stick my hands in there and mess with anything. Something to think about.
