Yeah i was pretty bummed out about it yesterday still don't know why but i guess you win some, lose some.

You mentioned a very strong first band? Does that mean they look different than what yours do at this stage?
It still amazes me that they develop much slower then what i see from the rest of everyone's pictures.

As for the tank covered in algae yeah it is on 3 sides i only clean off the front so that i can see in. This was the first major cleaning i did of the bottom of the tank, now that i have done that it is much easier to siphon out and see the oto that has gone uneaten in the tank.

I do think i have made a mistake though i just realized that i have not done anything with my 2 rotifer cultures (except feed them ia) for at least 2 weeks now, i took a sample out of the tank and there appears to still be rot's but do you think they are worth anything at this point?

I should have been harvesting the tank i know but well you know, lol.

Thanks it was much harder to remove the (2) from the tank then when they were larvae as now they look like little clowns and not little guppies.

Frozen rot's (at least from what i have read) have not been reported to do very well for the larvae as a first food. but they will pollute the tank with no problem, mother nature provides them with live (moving) food and they have the built in instinct to go after that. So if you don't have rot's to feed them you can try as Fb mentioned the bbs in a pinch.

I don't think i could send you any rot's, i may have my own issue to take care of, and i would be sending them from coast to coast so i don't think that would work very well.

if you click the image button at the top "IMG" it will give you a pop up window and you put the HTTP:// location of the file and it will insert it into your post.

My badge hasn't been yellow since I put it in with the larvae. I've done two water changes so far and the larvae are only on day 6 and this is with using live phyto and not the paste. How are you guys and gals keeping your ammonia down? I know I've lost (some):D , because of this. Any tips are welcome :rollface:
 
I'm sorry for you loss Dazed. It sucks when they look like little clowns.. I have had quite a few jump to their deaths and it really sucks. Nice sized clutch there FB. I hope mine get that big one day... Amquel MYDRAAL lots and lots of Amquel :) And keep that sucker clean.
 
I've been putting a capful a day. Only have larvae in about 2 1/2 gal. of water how much are we talking about? I didn't want to over do it because I was afraid of possibly doing more harm then good.
 
A capful is waaay more than I'm using. 1/3 of a cap for 5 gallons I think. Don't get too worried about a bit of ammonia. They are tough little buggers. Get a sponge filter in there as soon as they start getting headbands. (you should have one seeded on hand)
 
I never get ammonia. Not sure why, but I never clean my heater. I have a tank almost 1 1/2 months now and not even a sponge filter in it. 0 ammonia. Wish I could tell you what I am doing but I don't really know.

Yeah I know FB rub it in :lol: , I've heard already that ammonia doesn't mess with you ;) I can't wait to be able to add my sponge filter so this problem isn't a problem any more. BTW when do you guys and gals start harvesting rots out of the larvae tank? That's to funny considering what I've gone through to pack it out with rots so that I don't have to worry about my fish starving.

Harvesting out of the larvae tank? If they are multiplying faster then they are being eaten I'd harvest a bunch. You don't want your O2 levels dropping too far. Also too many will build ammonia faster.
 
Maybe my indicator is toast and ammonia is the reason I can't get 400 out of 900 eggs. I better get a test kit. But you would think that if it killed 800 fish why did 100 survive. Plus none of my fish ussually die past day 6 or 7.

Let's not even talk about the cyano running wild in our main tanks while we're trying to raise these little guys :lol: . Trying to get :uzi: phosphate under control as we speak :rolleyes:
