My breeding suprise which turns into a build

WELL AS I WAS JUST GETTING ALL SET UP TO PAIR UP A BUNCH OF CARDINALS TO GET THEM BREED (WHICH HASN'T PRODUCED ANY BABIES YET LOL) I NOTICED MY CLOWNS DECIDED TO LAY EGGS.

WHICH BRINGS ME TO THIS THREAD.

I NEVER PLANNED TO BREED CLOWNS BUT I COULDN'T HELP BUT TRY AS SOON AS I GOT A BATCH OF EGGS..
HISTORY..
ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO I PURCHASED A PAIR OF TRUE PERCS FROM MY LFS. THEY HAD A BIG SHIPMENT (FROM ORA I BELIEVE) OF THEM IN AND HAD A DEAL LIKE $14.99 EACH SO I PICKED 2 THAT I LIKED THE MOST AND OUT THE BUCH I PICKED THE 2 THAT LOOKED A LITTLE DIFFERENT HAVING AN ARROW LIKE STRIPE.
(THIS IS THE ONLY PIC I HAD IN THE PHONE SO EXCUSE THE DIRTY GLASS LOL)

WELL AFTER ABOUT 2 YEARS THEY DECIDED TO LAY EGGS AND LONG STORY SHORT I DECIDED TO TRY THE 2ND BATCH. OUT OF THIS BATCH I GOT 35 CLOWNS TO SURVIVE AND THEY ARE NOW ABOUT A MONTH OLD.. BUT I HAD A NICE SUPPRISE WITH SOME OF THESE BABIES.. IM GETTING A MIXTURE OF WHAT I BELIEVE TO BE SNOFLAKE, REGULAR, SO FAR MISSING BAR (MAY DEVELOP LATER) AND ALSO PLATINUM BABIES.

AS OF NOW I HAVE OUT OF ONLY 2 BATCHES WHICH I LOST 99% OF THE 3RD BATCH TRYING TO AIRATE THE TILE WITH EGGS. 11 PLATINUMS AND ABOUT 40 OTHERS.

I was shocked i really just wanted to see if i could get any to live and i ended up with this.. And both the parents are regular they must just be offspring from snowflake and white parents..
 
Looks like you started with a good deal for a pair of semi Picasso Percs, and ended up with a good gene mix! Platinums come from breeding two Picasso Percs, you end up with varying mixes of white and black markings sometimes. Great job!
 
I most likely will if the future, for now i just plan on seeing how things go and how these babies develop as they grow. I do plan on rasing every batch of eggs as they lay them tho.
 
Your clowns look great but from what i have experienced and heard true percs dont develope there 2nd stripe till 3 months and 3rd stripe till almost a year i have hundreds of true percs oldest being 3 moths that are just getting there 2nd stripe which makes me believe u have a pair of false percs which are occelaris clowns they get there stripes within a month i have 2 week old snowflakes that have there 2nd stripe already they must be babies from a snowflake pair that ended up with regular stripes just my 2 cents though look at the eyes if they are orange with a perfect black dot then they are percula if not im wrong
 
Those broodstock and offspring are 100% percula, not ocellaris.

What you original bought as a pair of "true perculas" came from ORA's picasso broodstock. Those fish came from the 25% or so of picasso offspring that didn't develop any extreme misbarring. They obviously carry enough of the gene that for all intents and purposes you have a pair of picasso broodstock, not true perculas.

You are correct in calling the pure white offspring "platinums" but the other extreme misbars are called "picassos", not "snowflakes" which are an entirely different variant of ocellaris.
 
Clownfishsushi from my understanding ora created the picasso from a true percula and a onyx percula how is it that his clowns have there stripes at only a month and ive bred true perculas and they dont even start getting there 2nd stripe till around 3 months false percs and ocellaris get there stripes in 1 month?
 
Yes the eyes are orange with a black center, they are 100% true percs, you can see some of them still havent developed their stropes i belive those will be the regular ones,, the snowflakes and platinums out of the bunch all developed their white patterns except for near the tails almost right away.

just read this after my last post, ill take note on that i never was into the clown thing until now so i have to get up on the names and get my terms straight..

So what is the difference between picassos and snowflakes. They both have random Patterns instead if the normal stripes correct?
