My BTA won't bloom :(

We got a brown BTA on a piece of live rock about a month ago, and it simply refuses to blossum. It remains mostly flat with tentacles all but retracted.

When we first got it, it moved around the tank a coupla times, settling on the side of some live rock. This afternoon we found it face down on the sand, though still alive. We relocated it to a shaded rock, where it has rooted again.

Tank is an Aquapod 24 gal with halide lighting. Temp is 79, Kh has been a little high, at about 15 (did another water change tonite).

Tankmates include two Mithrax, a Hawaiian Strawberry crab, a yellow clown goby, a lawnmower blenny, a fire shrimp, a green-banded goby, and a dozen asst hermits, and a handful of snails.

We also have a few SPS and LPS corals that are well-separated from the BTA (we named it Fred).

It really is alive, it retains its zooanthella (sp?) because it has a brownish tint. It ate a piece of silverside once or twice, but has rejected food the past few attempts.

Help!

most likely the LPS is killing the bta

How? They dont emit terpenacious chemicals (i stand to be corrected though im quite positive). Regarding stocking, i would say its margianally overstocked .

(This is just my point of view, feel free to ignore!) Id say take out the lawnmower blenny. They grow to 5-6" and will need something like a 50 Gallon tank to thrive on a microalgae crop, IMHO it will outgrow a 24" and will not receive enough nourishment. Leave the two gobies in, they should do fine and dont stock any more corals. Make sure you are aggressively skimming and using some form of chemical filtration (activated carbon).

Shrimp are nasty critters at times, in respect to anemones. My cleaner shrimp tramples all over and in my zoanthids and my BTA, I basically have to stuff him with food so he doesnt start foraging in the mouths of the inverts. Ensure that the shrimp is not harassing it. You say you have halide lighting, should be fine then IMO for a BTA. If it is 250W or more, it could be too much for a BTA in a 24G. A pic would really help to suggest some other ideas!
