My build thread is up and going.

Congratulations on the new tank build! It is a fun process except when you are stalled and can't see the light at the end of the tunnel. As one who has come in from the dark I will say it is definitely worth the wait to take your time and do it right the first time!!!!
 
really excited, got a lot of framing done. here is a teaser pic, but I encourage you to check out the thread. Always appreciate your comments.

I can't tell from the picture but are those 2x's resting on top of the tank for mock up or for your canopy ?

I would HIGHLY recommend not having any wood resting on top of your tank nor anywhere near the water even tho you do have euro bracing.

Don't take it personally :) I am really trying to help.
 
Also the stud to the far left of the tank butted up next to it. That should be turned or moved.

You wont be able to use a magnet to clean the glass and it might cause some other PITA problems too.
 
3rdly.
Maybe place a fan blowing on that treated lumber at the bottom of your stand to dry it out.

If you don't believe it will warp maybe someone will PM you with his experiance with it.

If you dry it out now, you can correct problems that might happen down the road.
 
its good that thing is acrylic... cramp up using the weights and its a different kinda tank crash :eek:

PeeWee just needs to pace himself...
 
Letmeknow, thanks for the constructive advice. I certainly do appreciate it.

There are no board resting on the top of the tank. They are hung from the ceiling, there is a 1/8" gap between the board and the tank, cant see it from the pic.

The left window pane will not be a viewing window. I will probably put a black background up and will not be cleaning it.

I will certainly take your advice on the boards, I had heard that before, but was told to use them because of the concrete floor.

i also didnt use pressure treated lumber for my stand ive seen way too many pt boards twist.
 
LOL.

I actually am still paranoid about the stand. Tons of lumber, but I am going to go back and add 100 screws or so, just for insurance! :D
 
i just posted this question in my build thread, you dont have to, but it would be great if you posted your answers on the build thread for the people following along. Thanks!

Need some advice. I will be using great stuff foam and egg crate to make a back rock wall. However I have read that after 8 mo. to a year some people have noticed the foam breaking down some, losing its hard shell and getting kind of soft. Do you think it would be possible to paint it with purple epoxy? That would make it extra hard and color it up quickly. I have seen people epoxy their homemade live rock, so I am not sure why this would not work
