My clam tore himself a new one...

In Memoriam
What the bleep is this clam doing.

I had 5 crocea clams, about 4-5" each, in my 40B (dont worry, kalk and calcium reactors are on it and I test alk/calcium every other week to make sure).

Now, about 18 months ago, the tank was moved, and one of them had a clam 'heart attack'...as in, it retracted into its shell so hard, like it was having a seisure or cramps, and it ripped itself free from its shell. It was dead within a day. It was actually fine from the moving, but it became dislodged from its rock (started falling sideways off the rock), and so when it was about to fall, facing downwards dangling from its foot, I picked it up and placed it on a nice rock under the light. Thats when it had its 'episode' and died.

I include that story, simply in case it adds any clues to what is happening right now.

Of the 4 clams that are left...3 are fine, but a couple weeks ago one started retracting more. It looked like it was pinching, but it only was retracted for about 1cm or less on one side next to the outlet siphon...the rest of the clam being out most of the time except for this area. As of recent, its retracting has resulted in its entire middle to bleach. As of yesterday, it does not come out, it has let go of its foot, and has torn a hole in between the other two on the top. It still responds well and is alert...Im shocked its still alive considering the hole.

I decided to do a freshwater dip today for 1 minute in case it is a protazoan pinched mantle infection...but my other clams seem fine as ever. Any ideas? Ill run salinity, phos, nitrate, calcium, and alkalinity tests right now...but I cant come up with a good reason for what is going on... no new additions as of recent, no changes made that would be about the same time it started to act funny...

Also, is it possible for the clam to regenerate, or is it pretty much done for?
