Hi,

I went over to my fish tank and I didn't see my clownfish ( fin ) and I was looking around and I found him on the outside of my tank. Man I was/am still sad I just found him like 10 minutes ago!:( any support would be nice lol!:) :love1:

Sorry for your loss. This is precisely why I put egg crate on my tank, to avoid this sort of thing.

I lost a clown today too, to Brooklynella. :(

Sorry to hear about your clown. One of mine came up missing too. Thought maybe something happened to him and had been eaten but to my surprise I found it in my overflow. I don't know how it got in there, I have tops on my tank, so it must have jumped and just happened to land just right. Has me stumped. Now I have to figure out how to get it out and return it to the tank. Anybody have any ideas ? Every time I stick a net in the overflow it disappears, and it's not like there's any room in the overflow to even turn the net around.

i dont believe clowns often jump so i would expect some underlying cause such as aggression in the tank or poor water quality, often a fish will jump in order to find a place that is more suitable or to escape from something. so basically theyll jump and hope and hope when they hit the water again everything will be fine and dandy, but they dont expect carpet...

I would have to disagree. Mine seem to jump at my hand when it approaches. The Tomato female has leaped some 3" out of the water to hit my hand when I was leaving the tank. They sometimes breach when a bug is bobbing on the surface or a pellet hits the water. Not uncommon for clowns to put themselves in harms way by breaching IME.

I also disagree. Clowns (and any fish) often jump when lights turn on, when there is a loud noise, or for any other of a myriad of reasons. Saying that they probably jumped due to water quality or aggression is a very broad generalization.

Some fish will however jump when the tank they are in is too small. They will try and dart away from the perceived danger and the only way to go is up.

Welcome to the club!... I hope it wasn't one of those expensive design clowns... I lost a snowflake ($250) and an onyx clownfish ($75) that same way...

lesson learned: rimless tanks are a bad idea when pairs are still determining dominance...

When I'm out on my boat I've seen dolphin jump, I hope they're not looking for better water!! Or, I hope they don't land on any carpet.
