My clowns are laying eggs!

Take several hours and read thru the big threads in this forum. DAZED and RKELMAN threads ring a bell.

Order rotifers and Rotifer Diet from Reed Mariculture.

Mine have laid there second batch of eggs today I was going to try and raise the first batch . But then after reading for over a week and decided I would wait till the second batch of eggs . The reason I ended up waiting was to build up my rotifer cultcher and I have just split up my batch now I have plenty of food for the fry . Lost to read that is for sure . I got my rotifer from reeds this stuff is great

You guys have a separate breeder tank to do this, right? My clownfish pair religously spawn about once a month, and the eggs turn silver, then disappear. I guess the fry get eaten in a community tank.

You have to stay up until lights out. Most will hatch within 2 hrs after lights out, alot 15-30 minutes after. Turn all water movement off, shine a flashlight in the tank (away from the eggs; lights on the eggs delays hatching), and gently scoop them out to transport to a fry tank.

I will admit, its not fun. If you have nocturnal fish, like my 3 cardinals, they will eat them quicker than you can catch them. The most I have ever caught is 8 in a one hour period. Then I give up and go to bed.

Something else you may want to try is a larvae trap. Google it. There is plans to make one with PVC or there is a guy on a breeder forum that sells them (they run off an air pump and cost ~$30. I tried the larvae trap, but the cardinals eat them before they get there.

I FINALLY got them to lay on a tile.

If you dont have any predators like me, you may want to try a larvae trap. If you want to try one, you can borrow mine. PM me if you're interested. Mine is ugly, but works. I had 2 hrs to cut, bend, and glue all the acrylic before we left on an anniversary weekend.
