i bought a pair of clowns from a great lfs near by and they are extremely healthy looking but every now and then they appear to start seizing when close to each other i figured it might be some kind of mating thing but as they are the first clown fish Ive had i wanted to be on the safe side.

thanks in advance for any and all advice

Yup, usually the smaller of the pair would "twitch". Mine has been doing that since I bought them but now they don't really do it anymore.

Yea, that's the submission 'dance' usually done by the smaller male, tho sometimes the female will do it too. Then every so often they'll do it to continue showing dominance/submission. It's fascinating behaviour that I never tire of watching. Sounds like you're on your way to a new mating pair of clowns. Congrats!

Just enjoy the show... typically the one submitting to the dominance will twitch, and go into a C shape... Mine started to submit and then immediately go for a kiss (or at least what looks like a kiss to humans).... ha

As long as one of your clowns doesnt start biting and taking chunks out (or grabbing a fin and swimming around) then you are fine. One will eventually win and become a bigger female and live happily ever after (depending on how good of a fishkeeper you are)....... or kill the other one

Since these are your first clowns, you might want to read the FAQs at the top of the forum - they have a lot of great information.
