Hey guys, gals I guess I already know the answer to this but If nothing else im looking for reasurrance that im not doing something wrong--At looking at several other post--you guys cycled pretty fast

Im on day 11
for the last three days my amon has been .8-.9
nitrites less than .3 but more than 0.0
nitrates 8

because my amonia has been less than 1.00 i stopped changing water--i dont wanna lengthen the cycle-

let me have your opinions--
oh 40 gal package is what i had purchased
thanks in advance

Hey Jeff, I know how you feel. I was real envious of the others who said they never had an ammonia spike over .5. Every morning I'd test, leave it for 15 minutes than sneak up on it hoping it wouldn't be purple in color(red sea test). It was 21 days till I put the second half in. I just look at it as my tank is more mature and has a better foundation for the good stuff that is to come.

You aren't alone Jeff ...

My ammonia has stayed between 0.25 and 0.5 for more than a month now. It went above 0.5 only for a short period. I stopped doing major water changes too. Interestingly nitrates are dropping to below 10 but my nitrites are still a little high.

I think my extended cycle is due to sponge die-off. I haven't removed many.

Everything else is doing great in the tank and I've only lost one cuke so I'm not sweating it anymore but I've held off getting fish until the cycle is complete.

Hang in there ... Rob

ok thanks guys for your replys

I found that interesting too rob--retested all three nights to verify
i find myself second guessing--and triple checking lol

well i guess all it took was this post---24 hours later my ammonia has dropped to <.25--my nitrites o nitrates 5.0----everything is going down like it should

Looks like Richard is gonna be sending me the second half soon
:)
