by the way to update those who are interested in the tiny might as a needle wheel pump, im ordering a tiny might pump as soon as i finnish this post. it should be here next week some time. im hoping to have a comlpeted neeedle wheel some time next month. i have too many other projects to finnish first but i will get the pump and mull it over for a while then proceed when i can find the bottom of the bench. its some where under that tone of plastic shavings and half completed projects.
and sharkme is right he did ask sequence about making a needle wheel. but they were reasearching them for a while. they just couldnt decide if they wanted to do it until they got tons of requests from that thread. thats really what got the ball rolling in my mind. i just couldnt wait the year for them to get the research done on them. im sure there reading this thread everyday and seeing the progress made on bills skimmer.
so to the sequence guys. hurry up and finnish these. i hate building these needle wheels. lol

This thread will prob grow like 10 pages an hr if you don't post pics... Please do RC a favor and post pics so that we don't bring down the webserver or fill up the database server with all of our replies :p

I would bet Bill is very busy trying to shop-vac all the foam off the floor. He's wearing waders. His girlfriend has a nice glass of chardonnay and is laughing like a hyena every time Bill does a face plant in skimmate.

I'll bet he has skimmate in his hair. Foam up to his knees and it's starting to short out electrical circuits.

Now she is trapped on the catwalk and wants him to get a raft.

Bill Scott is not kidding.. ask his wife... he really is a nail biter!!! Take that with the fact that by this time today he probably has had three or four Caribou Coffe runs, the guy is wired!!! When he runs out of acrylic to chew it's back to the nails!!! When that happens he will most likely chew right through the bone on every finger and eventually bleed to death!!!

SO FOR THE LOVE OF GOD BILL!!!!! PLEASE POST PICS, SO WE DO NOT LOOSE ONE OF OUR FAVORITE DIYers!!!!!! OHHH THE HUMANITY!!!!

so far ive dumped 2.5 gallons of crud out in the last 1.5 hours .
It needs alot mor tuning and breakin . so far so good . If i force air into the nw pumps with a air pump it ****s it down , not sure why yet .
I think it migh be pulling plent of air on it own . It allready works better than my rk2 .

wow is all i can say! did you end up jump starting it with some skimmate from the other skimmer? if so how long did it take to puke that out? i think the riser tube is way too small. the water level should be alot higher than that. i guess an 8" twist lock is in order here.

Looks great Bill. Just like mine in skimmate. I love the fact that it really didn't need a "break-in" period like so many commercial brands. Mine starting skimming right away too. What is interesting is that your foam looks exactly like my foam and yet we are using entirely different air injection methods.

Do you think you have enough clearance on the lid? If you cut the top of the riser at a slight angle that will get the foam to spill off better and not collapse under its own weight. Check out Weatherson's skimmer construction for a good pic of what I mean. It really works well.

Work of art man.

jnarowe's right. The skimmer lids are made to constrict the flow of air around the top of the riser neck to create a pressure surge at this point which discharges the foam downward.

I seriously dont think that that skimmer neck is large enough...it should be a much larger diameter and maybe lower...otherwise the neck just gets caked with poop deposits too easily (And then performance drops). A 12" neck at least...

Speculation of course, but I bet that the reason for the similar foam color/appearance isnt because of the method of injection, but the dwell time that each bubble has. The longer dwell time, the stronger each bubble will be, and the darker, more vile proteins will get extracted (black sludge that shorter skimmers cant get at).

I really dont think that more air will do much for you at this point. There is so much already, that you might go beyond the threshold where the extra bubbles just cause more turbulence with each other as they rise. As is...its looking like its doing great. I am in envy.
