My DIY stand so far

This is what I have for my 180g so far. The frame is a built underbuilt compared to what other people have done, but it will hold up fine, IMO. All red oak plywood and then all red oak trim. Going to put a 3" shelf around the tank. Going to stain it a nice dark red :D

The whole front of the canopy will hinge at the red line (had to draw it in MS Paint cause I couldn't find it on the picture!)

We're going to try and make our own doors pretty soon here :D

Thanks!

Side shot, haven't put on the back half of the canopy yet.

Got the mounting brackets for the RO1's done. They'll hang with eye hooks and some chain so they can be moved on different sets of hooks to go farther back:

The canopy uprights attach via these angle brackets, then the actual canopy bolts to this.. it will be very easy to move into the house.

From the side of the stand, trying to figure out how to mount 4 4' actinics in here.

Looks good. How large of a sump will you be using? With the 2 vertical braces, doesn't seem like much access under the tank.

We have a fish room in the basement so the inside of the stand will be pretty much empty. Going to have a 75g sump, adding a 20g XH fuge later and possibly a larger prop system later too.

Heres an update at last..

And in that back 6" behind the tank, these panels fit in. The one with the cutout holds the Reefkeeper 2.. it will just have the display, no wires (one of the reasons I love the RK2... the display unit can actually be displayed)

I have to say I'm very pleased with how it came out. These pictures are a little bit brighter than how it looks, but then again we have 200w of lighting in the garage so it was pretty dark..

Very nice lloking stand and canopy. What did you use for the moulding? Did you router those yourself, or did you use moulding available in the local lumberyard?

thanks,

ben

Thanks, the crown moulding as well as the baseboard is solid red oak trim available at Home Depot or Lowes.

We made some simple trim to use as plywood caps ourselves with 1/4" thick strip of red oak.
