My Duncan is sick

Well it seems that I've got some kind of sickness in my beautiful Duncan and will have to cut off a branch of about 7 or 8 heads today. I'm sick over this.

You can see two heads are white already and the others are brown. Yesterday they were still alive with color but didn't open. Haven't opened in a few days. I just hope that cutting off the whole branch keeps the rest from getting whatever it was they have. Brown jelly maybe?

Sorry to hear that.
Anything i've read about brown jelly is to cut off the affected part quick and get it out of your tank so it doesn't spread.

Well I've removed the bad heads and left two that were on that branch as they still have color. I'll keep a close eye on it today.

Yeah this really sucks, was such a beautiful piece.That was about a third of it that is now gone. Damn I hate this hobby :hammer:

You might want to move the rest it to a qt tank for awhile, as I believe it is contagious to other lps corals.

as above, get it to a qt or your in danger of it spreading to other corals in your system.

OK so after reading up on brown jelly disease I've blown off the brown jelly that is hanging off of my colony and have done one iodine dip so far. It looked better before I did the dip but hoping that it will survive and grow back. All closed up after dip, then a few hours later. I'll post more pictures today after all of the lights come back on. Right now with the blue LED's it looks better than it did in these pictures.

I read that one treatment of iodine should get rid of the bacteria that is causing this but it also said to do 3 dips. So I'll skip a day between them and do two more.

Hopefully it recovers. I would cry if my Duncan got sick. I love the thing to death. :lol:

It didn't make it. Wound up fragging all 8 of the remaining heads and they all went within a day. So very sad and yes I'm sick over it.

Thanks Zee, I got lucky nothing else was infected with it. It's very sad to lose such a nice colony. I'll find another one, or hopefully my other 2 headed frag wakes up and starts putting out new heads soon
