i recently just placed a Dwarf lionfish on my tank, QT it for like 2 weeks and it was doing fine but now its not doing anything on my display tank..not moving from one spot and not eating live shrimps..what could i have done wrong..waaa

Where did you get your lionfish from? One of the biggest problems plaguing saltwater aquariums is cyanide poisoning. (which should be banned >.<)

This does not mean this is the problem your lionfish is facing. Lionfish need a verity of foods not just shrimp in order to obtain all the nutrients they need. I would suggest adding some fish to their diet. You can even try adding some vitamins like selcon. If he will not yet accept frozen foods than I would suggest trying to feed him black mollies. They are a brackish type fish and can be safely feed to saltwater fish until they are weened onto frozen silver siders. Just make sure you get your black mollies from a reliable source that does not carry parasites ^^

hey there! rosemoon, i bought it from my LFS, i QT'd it for 2weeks, does it take that long for the cyanide to take effect? it was doing well the last 2 wks. i fed it with a diet of shrimps, and since i can't find any small damsels on the LFS, i fed it with german guppies about 2x per week, and eventually trained it to eat from a stick (not frozen though). i saw it move before i left for the office but it was only about an inch or 2 from where he landed when i released him on the display tank

Cyanide collection isn't totally gone, but it's nowhere near the problems it used to be. Properly trained collectors actually catch MORE fish without using it, and without the cost and danger of working with cyanide, and lions typically aren't caught with cyanide, but I digress.

What does the lion look like? Check its eyes, its fins, its body for spots or lesions. Is the fish breathing heavily ("gilling")? What are your tank parameters?

"Facing the wrong way and not moving" doesn't give us much to go on.

In the meantime, I'd add some Vitamin C and B6 (Thiamine) or a B complex to the tank. I'm not a fan of Selcon because it mostly washes off of the food unless you feed it to live food.

hi thanks for taking the time to reply, yes i have to agree cyanide collection is still being used here in our country, i was a victim of this once but its a good thing we are implemeting the law much more stricter and conservation efforts has been applied already.

so far i checked it about an 2hrs ago it was doing okay, i guess it was just intimidated because the lion is still about an inch and i have a 3" volitan swimming around and eating everything it can find.

water parameters?
tankmates?

h2o params :

Temperature 80F
pH 8.2
Alkalinity 10 dKH
(NH3) 0
(NO2) 0
(NO3) < 30 ppm

tankmates :

added this together with the dwarf today

1 mimic tang
1 maroon clown
1 heinocus butterfly

old tank mates

1 sailfin tang
1 volitan lion
4 3 stripe dams
2 false percs
1 tomato clown
2 orange skunk clowns
1 yellow tang.

What size is the tank?

That's three tangs and three different species of clownfish.

Add in a few damsels and a big lionfish I'd probably be terrified too....especially coming from a sterile and quiet QT.
