My experience using levamisole soluble drench and ICH

hi all ! I found that I had ich in my tank despite all the efforts to avoid it. Looking for a solution I found this thread

So inspired by this thread:

I will warn you. DO NOT USE IT

I have a 185 gallon system. Which according to dosing instructions I should use 3 grams of the product.

The product will make your CUC and shrimps look like they are stoned. They will barely move.

Corals do not seem to be affected by it, at least not to a great extend. I dont have many corals, so maybe Im not a good reference.

Fish will start to swim erratically and be very stressed ( I had to pull out my powder blue tang because it was a pain to watch). Some will hide, others go to the bottom of the tank. All will heavy breath and change color, some will loose it others will go darker. This was not a happy time for the fishes

I lost my cleaning shrimp, a leopard wrasse, and a wild fish I caught.

If the product worked or not, well the fished were so stoned that I was able to pull them out to transfer them to the quarantine tank. Im still missing to catch the blue tang.

The params are stable in the display, some worms are dead, but the product kills worms. So that was expected.

So here I am, with a QT full of fish and now starting fallow time.

See you in 90 days :angryfire:

I think living with ich and hopping fish will develop immunity causes less damage than this drug.

Hoping for immunity is a very risky situation. Once you get an outbreak your aquarium is pretty much done. You will have to treat it the same way everybody does, QT and fallow time.

By the way... I'm in the second day and yes... The aquarium still looks stoned.

Is there a way to eliminate the product from the system? I'm using carbon and water changes for now...

"Once you get an outbreak your aquarium is pretty much done". This is wrong. You can live with ich if your tank is pristine with everything else. My neighbor has a 300gal tank. He knows ich is in his system but cannot quarantine due to the size of some large tangs and angels he has. He got ich maybe 5 years ago and to date his tank is still standing with healthy fish and most of the livestock from 5 years ago. if you have fish dying from ich, there is something else wrong with your system.

Maybe you can try to use UV to break down the drug? But I would assume carbon and water changes would be enough in the long run.

Well its being almost a week and Im having an algae bloom. Even if no ammonia, nitrites or nitrates are in the system (test kits all came negative)

Phosphates are also at 0 or almost.

I suppose the decomposing matter from worms and other livings are causing this.

I will do a water change tomorrow. See how that goes.
