Thanks, y'all. That is a top down picture from my reef. Here's another to give you another perspective.

That's beautiful. Everything looks great!

Did you use any kind of acrylic box or underwater housing to take the shots or did you just turn the pumps off and shoot from the surface?

No, I use my Top Down Photo Box. People have linked to it in this forum, and you can find it in the left column of my Fotos page.

All the pumps were running, and it was hot up there near the lights.

That top down box is a great DIY. I've looked at your site before re: sump setups and inhabitant IDs. You've really done a great job and everyone a great service by sharing your knowledge. Thanks!

that is what makes a truly spectacular reef (and photo!); great contrast of colors and textures between the corals, clam and fish. of course I would expect nothing less from Melev's reef, but still, wow.

great shots. I must make one of those top down boxes IE my husband must make one for me. the colors and perspective are just beautiful.

You know what is funny? You guys always help me get better perspective after I read your comments.

To me, my reef is okay but nothing spectacular. I see the issues that are occurring in the tank, and don't have phenomenal growth like other tanks I see here on RC.

Admittedly, top down shots always look better than through the side of the tank, maybe because they are seen less frequently, or maybe because the colors are always more vivid.

I totally agree. I'm very picky when it come to buying clams, which is why I tend to only have one. ;) I'm setting up a new tank soon that will have room for clams.
