my final decious for my 10 gal. now rimless tank.

ok im not going with a zoa tank now. but heres what im going to do im going to setup my 10 gal. (witch is now a rimless)as a macro algea tank with live rock and house 1 clown maybe. or some other typ of fish. i decided to stick with a standerd light t12 i belive but it has a 50/50 bulb in it so it looks nice.i have the light suspended above the tank from the wall so i now have a true rimless tank looks nice. next question is does anybody have macro algea i can have for cheap or maybe even free.my idea for the tank in my head is for it to look like a forest of waveing algea(of course clean lookin in the process) i will use 2 big boulder i have in my main tank i can spare to use. and i will use sand from my main tank also. i dont think i will need a power head since i will be useing a hob filter rated up to 50 gals on the back of this 10 gal. so i sould be fine. any sugestions would be nice thanks guys.

Is this a standard 10g tank?

ya its a standered 10. I took the top black braceing off withc is harder then it looks. Then i scraped all the extra silcon off and wet sanded the top till it was smooth.

Matt, I think that black rim is there for a reason. The glass used for these tanks is very thin. I think that top brace is exactly that, a brace to keep the tank together. I think the tank will split apart eventuallly.

Maybe someone else will chime in here, but I think you are asking for trouble.

well i shouldnt say brace it was just the black rim. I seen somone do this on the nano form and they haven seen any isues with it. If i see any stress i will add the rim back on but i think it should be ok i had it filled with r/0 water for 2 days now and there seems to be no problems.but i guess time will tell. But so far good.

The glass is super thin on a reg 10gal and the slightest added stress will crack it. They are made very cheap. Euro brace it or something

It was definitely a brace and needs to be put back on. Or you need to reinforce it another way. I am afraid this is just asking for a disaster.

Yep. All tanks that are rimless require extra thick glass in order to have more surface area for the silicon to bond with. Your modification just ruined that tank. A eurobrace would fix the problem, but now you're not dealing with rimless. I'm afraid you'd need a custom job to make this size tank truly rimless. I hate to chime in with this, but why bother? If you have a nice display tank already, just stick with that for now.

Yes, the silicone on a 10g AGA will eventually give. You could leave on the bottom rim for some added support, but the glass is only 1/8" thick. Please keep a spare tank around just in case. Also I definitely wouldn't have anything hanging on the edges or sitting on top of the tank. It can't support the weight without the rim.
