My firefish have paired and one has been hiding for weeks...

They paired up and are were pretty inseperable. They used to swim incessantly together. Now, only one is out at a time. The other is always hiding under a rock. They dug out their little den and the one is ALWAYS under the rock. Is there an explanation to this behavior

Weird, huh? I cant tell if it's the same one or if they're takin turns. Cant differentiate the two! Got puppy firefish from all this???

I can peek in there with a flashlight. All I see is the face of the other firefish...pretty ****ed too that I am shinin a light in his face.

well. if you look at when a pistol shrimp pairs with another pistol shrimp, they do the same thing. also when a pistol pairs with a goby, same thing. one stands guard and one stays in the home.

They have laid eggs and are taking turns guarding the brood comes to mind based on what you are describing.

Maybe they have un-paired?
