My first BTA is a Rose

Saw him yesterday and just had to get it. I think the price was reasonable at $125. What do you think?

Very nice. I love the tentacle shape. $125 is about what I pay for my RBTA's. I think it's over priced, but they are hard to come by sometimes.

looks like he hasn't been feed in a while, you should feed him today then maybe twice a week until he grows a bit. then you can back off to once a week.

nice looking rose :)

Thanks for the tips. I am keeping it under 14k MH and 6500k PC. I thought it looked a little orange. I will feed it today. I've seen them on the net for the same price, but then you have to pay shipping and such on top of that. I have a LTA currently that my saddleback hosts. I'm hoping that if I get rid of the LTA that it will make the switch to the Rose. What do you think?

OK. So I tried to feed the anemone. It did not accept the food I offered it. I tried to give it a chunk of chopped squid cube. Thawed of coarse. I noticed that the tentacles are not sticky like I've noticed w/ other anemones I've had in the past. Is this normal? Could it just not be accepting food while its acclimating to my tank? Should I try silversides instead? Are they really that discriminating?

try silcversides btas are not especially sticky normally
some anemones like different foods thats all.

Thanks. That kind of sets my mind at ease a little bit. I will go purchase some now and let you know how I make out.

One more thing. I know that bubble tips are prone to splitting and budding and such in an aquarium. I bought the whole chunk of rock the anemone was on, so we didn't have to try and pull it off. While I was looking at it today, I noticed a tiny chunk of something that looks like a foot w/ some bubbles on it. Could there be any chance of a baby already? I doubt it but you never know. Its too small to take a pic of cause my macro stinks on my camera.

Looks good! I have always had good luck feeding raw shrimp. I have been selling my RBTA clones off to local reef club members for $25 (Of course, I rarely part with one). Looks like I need to up my price :)

Well SoonerFan I might have to travel down the Turnpike to get a new bloodline from you. By the way Joshua1023, whats the size on your new RBTA?

i feed mine either mysys / silversides / krill

while some reproduce sexually, in the aquarium they usually will just split. the small one that you are seeing is probably a pest anemone, can you get a pic?

Its not a baby. If your anemone was to reproduce by fission, then you would have two anemones of equal size, not a big one and a baby at its side. I agree with GMSguy, try feeding thawed silversides. If it still doesn't accept that, be patient. It took my green Haddoni two weeks before it started accepting food despite how sticky it was. What I usually do is place the food on top of the mouth of the anemone so the anemone has to put only a little energy in bringing back the food. Eventually, your RBTA should accept food.

Good luck

that's a nice color one. i have one that i got like that. i thought it would color up more but it's been with me for like 2-3 months and it's stayed the same color but has grown bigger.

I like the color and and the zoxanthelle is strong green in the oral disc. I tried a chunk of silverside soaked in Selcon for a few hours and got the same result. It doesn't even try to take it. I turned off the pumps and placed the chunk right on his mouth and wiggled it around a bit to try and stimulate it. It closed around it for a minute, but I think it was just a response to the wiggle. It then opened up and let the chunk slide right off of it.

I can't get a pic of the tiny anemone, but I think your right. It must be just a hitchhiker on the rock the anemone came on.

Do you suggest continuing to feed daily until it accepts food? Should I just wait a few days until my next attempt?

Well he finally ate today. What a load off of my mind! I was a little worried there for a day or two. He downed a whole cube of squid in like two minutes. WooHoo!
