My first fish casualty from haddoni

I should not be shocked by this but its just the way that it happened that is heartbreaking. After 8 weeks of QT my new blue hippo tang, yesterday i introduced him to the DT. Of course he was stressed and as soon as he hit the water he dashed to go hide. He did not pick the best place to do it, under my large red carpet. He got stratled by another fish and got caught on the red haddoni but was able to get away! But as soon as he did...i guess in distress from being stung..he darted into my puprle haddoni and this time there was no escape. I just watched in shock as there was nothing i could do. 24hrs later i was just standing today by the tank and all of sudden he started to spit him out so i took this pic:

i guess i should have introduced it with lights off..i guess lesson learned.

That is heartbreaking! Reminds me of when I bred angelfish for the first time and had a swarm of my first babies. I put them in a tank with a channel catfish thinking they were big enough, they weren't. Sucks the most all that waiting, for them to grow up and for you the QT, only to have them gone in a flash. Sorry for your loss!

wow...what bad luck for him.

sorry for your loss. especially a blue hippo tang...beautiful.

I would have chocked my haddoni and made him spit it up. :-/

Yeah, it really sucks to go through all that trouble treating him in QT only to have this happen....thanks all for your kind words. Trust me, i did want to choke that haddoni..

I've not kept Gigs, but many Mags and Hads - never had a Mag eat a healthy fish but my Haddoni's would catch and eat them all the time. Is the risk you run unfortunately.

Same thing happened to me a week ago with a 5" magnificent foxface. Had him for a week and he took a nap in the rocks and ended up being eaten by my 12" green haddoni. I'm staying away from small fish now and hopefully larger fish specimens will be ok. I should have known better when I got the haddoni but I love the color.

Are these anenomies hard to find? I want one and haven't seen one anywhere. I just got back into the hobby a few months ago.

I've kept H.magnifica anemones since 06. Never lost a fish til this year.

One them ate a Tomini Tang I'd had for 7 years.
