My first fish :)

I do trust the store my friend has been buying fish there for 10 years and has never gotten a bad fish. That being said once I have any kind of money invested ill still qt.

What other fish do you plan on adding?

A purple dotty back, and a percula. Im hoping to add an anemone but I have a feeling this tank is way to small for sps and an a nem.

This hobby is supposed to be fun and exciting and there is nothing like the 'first fish in the tank' feeling.
Enjoy it and don't worry too much about all the 'no quarantine' posts. They are only trying to help, even if it comes across in a negative way.
RC represents a lot of experience and you will do well to listen to the advice given here,

One of the most common feelings in this hobby is 'I need a bigger tank'.
Keep reading and learning and asking questions and hopefully when that time comes for you ( sooner than you think ), you will understand the reasoning behind of QT and use it for every new fish.

This, and folks are just trying to save the OP potential heartache down the road. This hobby can be very rewarding, but it can be extremely stressful, especially when trying to control a disease outbreak.

To the OP: enjoy your first fish. A firefish was my first fish as well.

He looks healthy. Be sure you protect the top: this species can really jump if startled. Very likely you have indeed dodged the bullet with this fellow, but do take precautions with the next purchase, for his sake, too, and for everybody, once you have multiple fish. Thanks all although this is my first fish I have actually been around the hobby all my life, my dad has had multiple saltwater tanks since I was born. This tank is actually to hold me over till I'm ready to do my big tank. It's going to be a 400gallon in wall tank. So the bigger tank bug bit me a long time ago xD

If you're talking about the purple/strawberry dottyback (P. porphyreus), I'd say avoid at all costs, but the orchid dottyback (P. fridmani) is a great option :beer:

I think Firefish are one of the most beautiful fish. Until you own one you don't know about the yellow and purple on their heads because it never comes through in pictures. And the redish orangish flowing tail catches the light in gorgeous ways. They are VERY timid though. If the lights are off, mine is in his cave. He literally never comes out until the lights go on, and the second they go off he darts back in. And while the lights are on, he spends all his time swimming away from any fish that comes anywhere near him. EXCEPT my possum wrasse, who is everyone's best friend.

Couldn't agree more, the more I look at him the more I like his coloring, the fading of translucency, blacks and oranges is beautiful. I will set up a qt tank, although I'm not exactly sure how without just mirroring this tank. ( I really don't want 2 of these.) Eventually this will be my qt for my 400g, that's part of why I got the light I did so I can qt sps and not have to worry.
