My First Lionfish

Yes thank god he's eating. In fact about about a half hour of being in the tank I fed my puffer some frozen krill and he ate a smaller piece.

Congrats! I just picked up one myself. I'm stoked yours is eating already. Good luck with him. Your going to really enjoy keeping lionfish

Dude, I seriously thought that coral was real again... Money well spent on it.

That's a beautiful Lion! Such lovely colors. How big is he/she?

He's in a bit of rough shape. Keep his water top notch and feed him as varied a frozen diet as you can. He'll be a beautiful fish if you can heal him up. A lot of times they can get net rub on their head and along their body like that, but yours has it worse than I would like to see. If he fought they hard or was transferred that roughly, I would expect to see rubs else where, but I don't. None of his spines are really unsheathed either. So I would ask myself how he could get net rub that bad on his head without being beat up anywhere else....

I don't like what is going on between the eyes there. Lions can fade out, especially when stressed (or get darker). If this was stress, I would expect to see him paled out generally and not so localized.

You're going to have to watch him, but lions are resilient. Excellent choice.

Wow...you got a good-sized specimen. It does look a tad "rough", but that's not odd for a radiata, as with the exception of the blackfoot, P. radiata is probably the lion that is the least tolerant of being shipped. As mentioned, good, varied diet and stable water conditions should get it back into shape.

Enjoy your new charge.
