This is going to be my first nano tank. Before our move I had a 120g sps dominated tank. We went from a house to an apartment so now I'm kinda limited for space, So i desided on a 24g pod. I got the tank, stand, and a 70watt mh.

look what was waiting for me when I got home today!

I put water in it to make sure it wasnt gonna leak. My Fiance wants to put sand in tonight as well lol

That black sand is "Oh so nice!" ;) Be nice to see the updates.
I'm gonna keep this updated through out every step

Love the black sand! Heres a pic of mine but the sand is more so dark grey. I thought the sand would be darker when it got wet (purchased dry in the bag) but not by much. Either way im happy with it.

This morning before I left for work I was looking at the tank. And your right the sand is more grey then black. OH well I still think it looks nice. Man what a sand storm in there, I guess the color of it makes it look worse but you should see the film on top of the water.

check out what was waiting for me when i got home today!

I have the salt mixed in the water now. Tommarow my 70 watt MH is supposed to be here. Then friday nite I'm gonna make a trip to That fish place and pick out like 10-15lbs of like rock. Saturday is the NCPARS fragswap so im going to pick up some morocks to finish off the rock!

During the day the temp in the tank is hovering around 86. Will adding a 2nd fan to the hood fix this? or do I need to order the nanotuners chiller?

Didn't you rinse it before you put it in. I remember I did a good rinse and really have no dust storm or surface grime at all.

Dang... hitting 86 already and you are upgrading to MH lighting. I would do a chiller.

thats what im thinking. I dont have much choice for lighting, I'm going to be keeping SPS.

I ordered 2 80mm fans for the hood. Hopefully that will help with the temp problem. We'll soon have to start running the air conditioner so the problem should go away.

Yesterday when I got home I has my 70watt MH retro waiting for me. Hopefully tonight I can get working on installing it in the hood.

For added help with the heat issues of the cube, I'm going to build a solid state chiller. While I'm at that fish place tonight I'm going to pick up an MJ400 to use for the pump for the chiller, I already have plexi glass, and today I'll order a peltier device and heat sink. Shouldnt be to hard to make.

AFter work today I went to that fish place and picked up afew things.

Some Tonga live rock

an MJ 900 to replace that tanks stock pump, a new heater, i think the temp control on my other one is way off. And an MJ 400 for my chiller project.

I've just done a mod on my hood where I put a 60mm fan just to the left of the feeding door which blows in. A hole to the right of the feeding door exhausts. I found that the evaporation really cools off the tank. I had to turn my heater on when my temperature dropped to 74 from a higher of 84, so there is quite a bit of cooling potential here. However, about 1 gallon evaporates a day so you would probably want an auto top-off.

I'll post pictures once the mod is complete. I'm waiting on some fan grills and a speed controller.
