My first salt water reef tank experience: 38 gal Innovative Marine

I use the stock pump. Not the strongest, but it works out just fine for me.

It doesn't create a lot of flow for particulates through the baffles, but that's my only complaint. It's not something that I need to swap out too soon. Fwiw.

Sorry have not updated my tank build in a while. I'll see if I csn get an updated video soon. I'm still using the stock pump. The stock pump for my needs work great with the addition of the mp10. It's still whisper quite and move waster good enough for now. I would recommend saving up for the mp10.

I still use the stock pump, but I also run an mp10 for flow.
I don't think the pump is really enough in terms of flow for the tank. It is fine for the filtration, but I think you will have problems if you don't move the water more.

Great thread to start.
I set up my 38 about a week or so ago and have been looking the net for a few options but haven't found any yet.
1. Is there a proper level for water in the read chamber. ( I have been keeping it so that the water going into the center chamber is slightly below the level of the dividers)
2. What is everyone using now as a replacement for the stock media baskets/filters. I have been looking at intank but what is everyone placing in the opening.
3. Small pieces of live rock in the rear chamber where water rises?
Thanks in advance everyone

I do not think there is a hard and fast water level in the sump. I have mine setup to maximize my water volume. I would say my water level is 3 or 4 inches below the level of the dividers.

I'm using the intank refugium basket. This is my build thread you should have seen what I use if you read through the posts..

Not sure if I understand your 3rd question. I have small rock in my chamber that flows into my refugium basket chamber.

My neon goby got in to the sump through the live rock and refugium. I can not get him out and he seem happy. He has a new home. I see him every few weeks or so.
