My first SW

I'm sure this isn't the absolute "gospel", that people have success with smaller volumes, but apparently this fish is very territorial so my guess is tank smaller than 75 g needs to have a lot less occupants to work. Stocking is kind of like eating--you see so many fish you love and you think you can cram them in your tank without any adverse consequences. I saw a post here yesterday with a picture of a 55 or 70 gallon that contained a blue hippo tang, a yellow tang and a 9" regal tang. Crazy. This problem is exacerbated by LFS employees who want to make money by selling you whatever fish you're interested in.

Im sorry Im still not going to have to agree with you, I dont believe in beliving one websites information when in conflicts with many many others, most of them are non retail websites. Yes i know Im too small for the tang but i have a 125 in storage that i just cant have set up right now because im in a 2nd story apartment

I can only assume that you don't know anything about wetwebmedia and who is behind it. What are the many, many other websites? I'm interested in checking them out.

Isn't 50 gallons more than 30 gallons?

Just a quick skim through liveaquaria.com--interesting.

Blue Hippo Tang. 70 gallons min (a 12" fish??). Wrong.

Naso Tang. 125 gallons (an 18" fish??). Wrong.

Bicolor Angel. 30 gallons. Way wrong (this fish grows to 6"!)

Sebae and Carpet anemones. 30 gallons Way wrong (what do you do with it when it gets to 24" in diameter??)

It wasn't a rude comment. I was just surprised that someone who knows of wetwebmedia would characterize them as some schlock outfit. Honestly, you're the only one here who has come across rudely.

It's clear from the similarity of information that most of the sites you posted simply scrape info from the same site--basically a regurgitation. I note that fishlore.com actually says "Tank Size : 30 gallon (113 liters) minimum, preferrably larger - tanks on the smaller side will surely bring out territory problems with other fish." Did you check out the credentials of the guy who wrote fishinsects.com? Clearly qualified. He actually says you only need a 24 gallon tank. I think he has been smoking something commonly described as a small white rock from a glass tube.

Hey, you're free to buy whatever fish you want for your tank. You don't have to justify your decisions to me. If you think a coral beauty will do find in a 60g, buy it. It might do fine if you have a small bioload. What do I care? This website is simply a means of conveying opinions, info, etc., and I'm free to share my opinions and the info (from trusted sources) I find re same just as you are. If you choose to ignore the shared advice/opinions because your 4 months' of marine experience makes you the expert, hey--more power to you.

first off i never did, nor would ever say that wetweb was a "schlock" outfit check yourself before putting words in my mouth.

second off, me rude? Lets think about this, a great way of joining a thread is "not to spoil your party"

third off i provided you with websites stating 30G as a min like you asked. and this whole thing was about min tank size, which you stated at 75, then you jsut respond to others sites with saying they must smoke crack, real good...

fourth off, keep up with the personal attacks, nice...

You seriously need to relax.

"Not to spoil the party" wasn't a rude introduction. You asked for advice/opinions. I gave mine to you backed by a very credible source. You didn't like my advice and don't believe in "beliving one websites information when in conflicts with many many others, most of them are non retail websites." You can fault me if you want, but I trust Bob Fenner and his crew 1000000 times more than I trust any no-named website. LiveAquaria has a reputation of providing wrong information from time to time. Most of the other sites you listed are just collections of information obtained from other places on the web.

Again, where was the personal attack? I don't get it. Were you asking for help/advice, or hoping someone wouldn't agree with you so you could pick a fight?

from the pages of the "fish bible" (or at least the closest thing to it) marine fishes by scott w michael. min tank size is 30.

i have seen that book suggested thousands of times here on the forum so i would assume it is a good source for info.

now you two can get back to your bickering

IMO 30g is minimum, but I see where you are comming from. They can be territorial so if you were to keep it in a 30g it shouldn't be with many other fish if any.

Thank you! As stated before, most of these "minimum tank sizes" really assume (or should assume) that the subject fish is the only one around. A 30 g tank really is not that large. Heck, a 60 gallon is not that large. I have a 110g which I don't think is all that large because of its tall shape (48"Lx18"Wx30"H), but it meets the "minimum" guideline. I'm sure that some of these fish would do fine in a 60 gallon tank, given uncrowded conditions and proper rockwork. A 60 gallon is not that much smaller than a 75 in reality.

I wasn't bickering--just dealing with a hypersensitive fellow poster.
