Thats a impressive looking ro unit!, how much did that critter set ya back? I am in the market for one thats why i ask I plan on going over to FAOIS and check them out soon as I have always considered them as good folk with a great store! but I need a better education on ro/di!

Mike,

You were all over the place this weekend. It was nice seeing you again and meeting Carol and Chris at FAOIS.

Sounds like your 390 is coming along.

Cheers,
Chris

hey Mike.. I just went and got me one of those fx units.. My tds was at 4 today and I wasnt happy..... not as pricey as i thought..

the FX guys are great

Aqua-FX direct.. copied yours basically... Talked to Peter over there and learned the Chloramine carbon used in the 2 canisters are basically just additionl di cannisters in function, just more cost effecient.

so have you started making water to fill the tank?i know i would have lol.you have to be feeling good knowing the end isnt far away.

No RO/DI water yet. I'm going to plumb the barrels in the garage and connect the RO/DI next week. This weekend is tied up.
Still lots of work to do. Light rack, auto top-off, water change system, kalk stirrer, controller, who knows what else!!!
I am very patiently enjoying every minute of the play!!! My fish and coral will thank me in the future.

Oh isn't that the truth - so you wait an extra month, no reason rushing it. I'm starting to put thing together - big expensive job! But for me it's once in a life time and I plan on enjoying putting it together as much as watching them after. Of course I'm not tell you anything new. If you need any help - just let me know.

My only remaining big project is the light rack. It will be a rectangle, 95" x 29", with three 250 watt metal halide Ushio 10K bulbs in "Lambinarc" 14" x 14" reflectors. Directly in front of and behind the center MH will be two 36" T5 actinics, for a total of four 36" actinics. Directly behind and in front of each of the 2 end MH will be two 24" T5 actinics, for a total of eight 24" actinics. That's a total of 750 watts of 10K MH, and 348 watts of T5, for a total lighting of 1098 watts. I haven't decided on which T5 bulbs yet. I've been checking out Giesmann Powerchrome Pure Actinic.
The light rack will attach to two 30" tool box roller drawer slides for easy access to the bulbs. I will be using a linear actuator to slide them in and out. The back of the slides will attach to the hood metal frame on a pivot point. The front will be suspended with cable on both sides. Another linear actuator will lift the front of the light rack while still inside the hood for added access into the aquarium.
I hope all that makes sense.

No. I ordered a 24" square piece of spectral aluminum from Marine Depot. It arrived yesterday, and looks like what I need.
I'm going to plumb the garage end of the water system before I start on lighting. Then I'll make a reflector, very slowly, and figure out all the nuances of working with the metal, before I make the "real" ones.

Oh that is so cool - I just went through all the drawings and dimensions - very nice- it would fit nicely in my design :D.

Why did you choose the Marine depot spectral?

Is it much better than <a href="http://store.innovativelights.com/diy-10060.html">this</a>?

Just wondering...:eek2: I plan I trying some myself in the future....

That is a nice price - I'll have to put that away for future reference don't you think mflamb? I'll let you be the guinea pig on this one-LOL.
