From what I've read about the 14x14, I should get good par in a 20x20 area, which will work good for my aquascape plan.

Would this reflector your going to DIY fit a SE 400 MH? I would like to redo the reflectors in the hood I currently have because it came with a flat glass mirror reflector in the hood. I also have 4 VHO's and would like to still use them in the hood with the reflectors. It doesnt give off as much light as it should for total 1240 watts in a 120 gallon 4X2X2. Thanks

Mike.. when you get ready to buy more reflective material. Count me in... and Id love to be around when you do your lighting frame build. Im leaning towards just a metal stand and the hood being more conventional (made of wood). But able to be tilted all the way back with pneumatic hinges so i can fully access the tank.

go the RODI today and hooked it up. 1 tds after RO and 0 after DI. Nice unit. Mike. you've used Aqua FX before. have you ever added a membrane flush adapter to it to prolong the membrane life??

I see that in your pic. my old unit has one. seeing the install on your pic I see no reason why the old one wont work.

poknsnok - you can add them to most units. I take it that your new unit didn't come with one? Not sure about yours but you can purchase a kit that fits most of the units - if your old one doesn't fit.

On a different subject - do you like your Deltec protein skimmer? I'm starting to look around for one to handle about 380 - 400 gallons of water (280 + refuge etc). Just starting to look at all the options on the market.

I didnt add one when I designed it. Took it for granted.. Seems easy to install. Ill just order one from FX so it wont void the warranty and it is definitely compatible. but it looks like its just a bypass by Mike's pic. Im curious how it works.

What it does is force water over the membrane, which dislodges damaging buildup so it give more life to the membranes. Mine only takes about 15 seconds to do each week. They say it can extend the life of the filters to as much as 6 months- I'd have to test that to believe it but it does help.

I know what it does but not how. I would guess it alleviates the pressure causing water to go over the membrane and not thru the it. But does the bypassing alleviate the pressure? Im gonna cal FX and get the scoop.

It's called a by pass because of the location - placed between the membrane reject port and the flow restrictor and provide a high flow by-pass. It makes hi press to clean the membranes. But yes I'd call them for your unit - must be different then most.

according to the units schematic the flow restrictor is at the wastewater outlet port on the RO housing. but I see nothing there unless it is internal.. looking at the pic of the unit Mike shows, you can see the bypass after the unit on the wastewater line. which would be after the restrictor.. ill let you know what they say

I learned something. the flow restrictor is actually housed in the wastwater line. a small little insert (tadpole) that I need to splice around when I get the flush kit..

I'll need to take a look at mine and the instructions. There is a valve in the bypass around the flow restrictor.

I see the Deltec question. LOVE it. best thousand dollars Ive ever spent on my tank.. Im saying they are pricey but very consistent and it began working immediately. no break in period. I will be selling my 701 to upgrade in 6 months or so.. im going to go to a 702

Mike, your flow restrictor is located in between the 2 splices, according to Peter at FX. With what I know Im sure my existing restrictor assembly would work. My old unit is from The Pure Water Store, an Ebay seller and he has a Flow restrictor/flush assembly housing that he touts. Im sure I can just remove the flow restrictor from the new unit and attach this assembly. that said, ill use the new assembly. I ordered one..
