What prompted him to try this? Just curious if he had a scientific reason for it, or it just seemed like something to try....

Mild alcohol dip sounds viable. You may want to water the sake down a bit; it may be a bit strong (or better?)

If it happens to me, ill give it a try (cant really hurt at that point, right?)
