My fuge is disgusting.

Check out these pictures. My refugium is absolutely disgusting. Looks like there's mold growing in there. I'm afraid to even stick my hand in there.....I might lose it. Anyway, does anyone know what's going on? My SPS are thriving, with new growth weekly and displaying some very nice colors. I don't have any algae in the display. My protein skimmer is pulling out a lot of junk, I have to empty the cup almost daily. I'm starting to think it's only yanking all this crap out because of the nasty fuge. Does anyone have any thoughts?

I think it looks fine, fuges aren't suppose to look pristine. Though you could do a little maintenence (lol).

Just think, without all that growth, you could be seeing it in your display. The fuge is doing its job keeping the nutrient consumption in the fuge where you want it.

I live in Dayton, and work at the Pinon Plaza Casino in Carson. Did you happen to go into Ofishal the other day and look at the frag tank? They had an AWESOME huge purple acro in there, selling it for only 22 bucks! I was so ****ed, cause I only brought enough money for the huge fish I bought for my 135G. I actually thought it would be there when I got back, ya right, they sold it in like an hour. I'm still mad about that one. :mad2: :mad2:

what kind of light do you have in your fuge? what are its hours of operation?

I'm using a 15 or 20W LOA screw in PC bulb. It's a 6,500K. I run it opposite from my main lights. ( 8 p.m. to 10 a.m.)

You're providing a better environment for that crud in your refugium so it grows there instead of your tank .

I have similar stuff growing in my shrimp/goby tank, primarily in low flow areas. It's easy to remove using a toothbrush, mine comes out in chunks.

that does look kinda nasty lol, but that is where the nasty stuff is supost to grow In my other refurium on my bigger tank i would get red slime and mold looking stuff that grew on the calupera. My sump now doesn't really have anything to nasty, but i'm sure it will eventually.

I get all my stuff from Ofishal, I think some of the 22$ frags are quite expensive for what you get, but I really don't know much about corals so maybe I'm wrong...

the frag you're talking about had a big circle around on the "window" and written sold hehe. The new frag arrangment is nice.

Thanks for all the replies, and putting my mind at ease. I felt like my house was gonna turn into that Steven King episode where that mold/grass started taking over the whole place.

BeachBoy, I wonder if it was the same frag. This one wasn't even a frag really. More like a small colony about 4". It was more like a $60 piece. I get my livestock from them, but I can't afford any of their dry goods.
