I am begining to get worried about my Smithii s/he never shows during the day and at night s/he is rolled into a ball in a random spot or is laying on its back. I don't use a flashlight the room's back light creates "shadows" of the mantis. Now I did ask a fellow G. Smithii owner the same question but that was when the laying on the back took place in the day. Either way is this usual ?

lying on its back is bad. As is lying on its side.
When it is rolled into its ball is its head touching its tail, facing forward? If so, do you have plenty of rockwork or a pipe for this animal to hide in?
Any chemicals been used in or around the tank? is the mantis fitting/convulsing?

Yeah he has a burrow, his head does touch the tail sometimes and its swimmerettes ( pardon the spelling) are moving adn I put in ghost shrimp and they are gone by the morning. Has for chemicals I used a black/white sand mix made bye Este's adn there was a strange black foam I thought it could be bad so before teh mantis went in I had a couple hermits go in.
